Cullerton Group is hiring Field Service Engineers (Levels I, II, and III) for a 6-month contract-to-hire opportunity supporting advanced CNC milling equipment throughout North America. This is an onsite position based in Columbus, Georgia with extensive travel to customer facilities to install, maintain, troubleshoot, and optimize world-class CNC machine tools.

Compensation

Field Service Engineer I: $45–$50/hour

Field Service Engineer II: $55–$65/hour

Field Service Engineer III: $65–$75/hour

Position Summary

Field Service Engineers are responsible for installing, commissioning, troubleshooting, repairing, maintaining, and optimizing advanced CNC milling machines at customer facilities. This role is critical in ensuring maximum equipment performance, minimizing production downtime, and delivering exceptional customer support.
Candidates will be considered for Level I, II, or III based on technical experience, CNC knowledge, and service capabilities.

Senior-level engineers serve as technical leaders by supporting complex customer issues, mentoring field personnel, and providing advanced expertise in CNC controls, machine diagnostics, machining applications, and customer support.

Essential Responsibilities

  • Install, commission, troubleshoot, repair, and maintain CNC milling machines and related equipment.
  • Perform preventive and corrective maintenance following company procedures and technical documentation.
  • Diagnose mechanical, electrical, hydraulic, pneumatic, CNC control, and machine performance issues.
  • Optimize machine performance to improve reliability, accuracy, and customer productivity.
  • Respond to customer service requests while minimizing equipment downtime.
  • Train customers on proper machine operation, maintenance, and safety procedures.
  • Complete detailed service reports and required documentation.
  • Work closely with Technical Support, Engineering, Diagnostics, and Customer Care teams.
  • Develop and maintain strong customer relationships through professional service.
  • Follow all company safety standards and service procedures.

Additional Responsibilities – Field Service Engineer II & III

  • Perform complex machine installations and repairs independently.
  • Troubleshoot advanced machine performance and machining application issues.
  • Support high-priority customer escalations.
  • Mentor and provide technical guidance to junior engineers.

Additional Responsibilities – Field Service Engineer III

  • Serve as a technical expert for CNC milling products and applications.
  • Lead resolution of highly complex machine, controls, and machining issues.
  • Support critical customer situations and high-visibility service events.
  • Deliver advanced technical training for customers and internal personnel.
  • Assist leadership in developing technical capabilities within the service organization.
  • Provide product improvement recommendations to Engineering and Product Development teams.

Qualifications

Field Service Engineer I

  • Associate degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Mechatronics, Industrial Technology, or a related technical field, or equivalent experience.
  • 1–3 years of experience servicing CNC equipment, industrial machinery, machine tools, or related manufacturing systems.
  • Basic mechanical and electrical troubleshooting skills.
  • Ability to read technical drawings, schematics, and service documentation.

Field Service Engineer II

  • Associate degree or equivalent technical experience.
  • 3–6 years of CNC machine tool or advanced manufacturing equipment service experience.
  • Strong troubleshooting skills involving mechanical, electrical, hydraulic, pneumatic, and CNC systems.
  • Ability to independently diagnose and resolve equipment issues.

Field Service Engineer III

  • Associate degree in Mechanical or Electrical Engineering, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • 6+ years of CNC machine tool service experience.
  • Advanced expertise in CNC controls, machine diagnostics, machining applications, and performance optimization.
  • Experience handling technical escalations and supporting complex customer environments.
  • Proficiency using diagnostic equipment and advanced troubleshooting techniques.

Physical Requirements

  • Frequently lift up to 50 pounds and occasionally up to 75 pounds.
  • Ability to climb ladders and work at elevated heights.
  • Ability to stand, walk, bend, kneel, crouch, crawl, and work in industrial manufacturing environments.
  • Valid driver's license with a clean driving record.

Travel Requirements

  • Onsite position based in Columbus, Georgia.
  • Extensive travel throughout the Southeastern United States and North America as required.
  • Overnight travel is expected.
  • Flexibility to work occasional evenings and weekends based on customer production schedules.
