About this Role

NorthStar Energy Solutions is seeking a Field Safety Representative to support safety performance on electrical substation construction, maintenance, testing, and commissioning projects across Texas. This role is intended for craft professionals with hands-on substation experience or closely related backgrounds such as transmission line work, testing, relay, or protection & controls.

This position does not require prior safety-specific job titles. The ideal candidate brings real field experience, credibility with craft personnel, and a strong understanding of electrical hazards in high-risk environments. The Field Safety Representative will work directly with crews, supervisors, and project leadership to reinforce safe work practices and support compliance in energized and de-energized substation settings.

What You'll Do
  • Provide on-site safety support for substation construction, testing, commissioning, and maintenance activities
  • Participate in daily tailboards, job briefings, and field safety observations
  • Identify hazards and unsafe conditions and work with crews and supervision to implement corrective actions
  • Support development and review of Job Hazard Analyses (JHAs), switching plans, and site-specific safety plans
  • Monitor compliance with OSHA, NFPA 70E, NESC, company policies, and client safety requirements
  • Support energized work, switching activities, outages, and testing operations from a safety perspective
  • Assist with incident, near-miss, and hazard reporting, including documentation and follow-up
  • Serve as a field resource and mentor to crews by reinforcing safe work practices through direct engagement
What You'll Bring
  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • 8+ years of hands-on experience working within electrical substations, including construction, maintenance, testing, commissioning, or outage activities
  • Strong understanding of substation-specific hazards, grounding practices, lockout/tagout procedures, and energized work protocols
  • Ability to communicate effectively with field crews, supervisors, and project leadership in active substation environments
  • Willingness to travel to job sites across Texas as needed
  • OSHA 10 or 30, NFPA 70E, First Aid/CPR, or similar safety training, preferred
  • Prior safety representative or safety leadership experience, preferred but not required
