Position Summary
The Mine Maintenance Technician plays a critical hands-on role in ensuring the reliability, safety, and performance of mobile mining equipment and supporting infrastructure. This position performs inspections, troubleshooting, repairs, and preventive maintenance on heavy equipment, support vehicles, and associated systems in both shop and field environments.
The ideal candidate has strong mechanical aptitude, experience working in mining or heavy industrial environments, and a commitment to safe work practices. This role directly supports production by minimizing downtime, improving equipment health, and maintaining a safe and efficient operation.
Key Responsibilities
Equipment Maintenance & Repair
  • Perform mechanical, hydraulic, electrical, and pneumatic diagnostics and repairs on mobile mining equipment, including haul trucks, loaders, dozers, graders, and ancillary equipment.
  • Conduct preventive maintenance activities in accordance with OEM guidelines and established maintenance schedules.
  • Troubleshoot equipment failures, identify root causes, and implement effective corrective actions.
  • Service and repair auxiliary equipment such as light vehicles, compressors, pumps, and generators.
  • Accurately document all work performed, parts used, and equipment condition.

Inspections & Reliability Support
  • Perform routine equipment inspections to identify wear, defects, and emerging mechanical issues.
  • Assist with condition monitoring activities, including fluid analysis, component inspections, and equipment health tracking.
  • Support reliability initiatives aimed at improving equipment availability and reducing unplanned downtime.
  • Work closely with equipment operators to address concerns and verify proper machine operation.

Shop & Field Maintenance Activities
  • Perform maintenance work in both shop and field environments, including active mining areas and outdoor conditions.
  • Operate service trucks, cranes, lifting devices, and specialty tools to complete field repairs safely and efficiently.
  • Maintain cleanliness, organization, and safety standards in the maintenance shop and work areas.
  • Assist with plant, facility, and infrastructure maintenance activities as required.

Parts, Tools & Documentation
  • Identify required parts and assist with ordering, inventory management, and component tracking.
  • Utilize maintenance systems, work orders, and logs to record inspections, repairs, and equipment hours.
  • Ensure proper care, calibration, and safe use of tools and diagnostic equipment.

Safety & Compliance
  • Promote a strong safety culture through safe work practices, proper PPE use, and hazard recognition.
  • Comply with MSHA regulations, company policies, lockout/tagout procedures, and equipment-specific SOPs.
  • Participate in safety meetings, risk assessments, and incident investigations as required.
  • Maintain clean, organized, and hazard-free work areas.
Required Qualifications & Experience
  • High school diploma or GED; technical or vocational training in mechanics or maintenance preferred.
  • Minimum 3 years of maintenance experience in mining, heavy equipment, construction, industrial, or similar environments.
  • Strong working knowledge of diesel engines, hydraulics, drivetrains, electrical systems, and heavy equipment components.
  • Ability to read and interpret schematics, service manuals, and diagnostic documentation.
  • Proficiency with troubleshooting tools, mechanical testing equipment, and service trucks.
  • Strong communication skills and ability to work effectively with operators, supervisors, and technical teams.
  • Ability to work safely in an active mine environment and perform physically demanding tasks.
Desired Qualifications
  • Experience working on Caterpillar, Komatsu, or other large mining equipment brands.
  • Familiarity with computerized maintenance management systems (CMMS).
  • Welding and fabrication skills (MIG, stick, cutting).
  • Experience performing field repairs in remote or rugged conditions.
  • Knowledge of predictive maintenance and equipment health monitoring techniques.
Physical Requirements
  • Ability to walk long distances over rough, uneven terrain and climb ladders and structures.
  • Ability to lift a minimum of 50 pounds.
  • Ability to work in all weather conditions, including extreme temperatures.
  • Must wear and properly use required PPE, including hard hat, steel-toed footwear, safety glasses, high-visibility vest, hearing protection, respirator (as required), and protective clothing.
  • Ability to work in environments with potential exposure to dust, fumes, diesel exhaust, solvents, sulphuric acid, and other hazardous materials.
