Job Description:
General Summary:
The Field Inspector is responsible for daily coordination and management of field operations, communication between airport Operations and the Contractor, quantity measurements, quality assurance and quality control oversight, project documentation and safety. The Field Inspector is the main on-site Owner's Representative, and holds knowledge of all daily activities including immediate technical, quality or safety deficiencies. As such, immediate communication of all project status and job-site activity to the Resident Engineer, Quality and Safety Managers is imperative.
Assignment Responsibilities:
The Field Inspector shall be responsible for field supervision of the project. Responsibilities will include but are not limited to the following:
  • Onsite and daily coordination and management of contractors work activities
  • Coordinates daily construction activity with the Chicago Department of Aviation's representatives including Operations, Security for all contractor's movements on the airfield
  • Enforce Contractor responsibility to prevent utility strikes. Maintain a completed Utility Checklist prepared by the Contractor with all required signatures, assure all existing utilities are properly marked with underground utility markings
  • Responsible for ensuring contractor's work performance is in accordance with the contract document
  • Verify at the beginning of each new Project that the contractor has obtained the required permits for the project to help avoid non- compliance issues (i.e. FAA-7460, hot work)
  • Inspection and proper documentation of new materials brought to the jobsite and staging areas for conformance with contract documents, field Orders and approved submittals. A Request for Inspection of Material (RFIM) form must be completed and all Material Delivery Tickets collected
  • Measurement and verification of the contractor's quantities in accordance with contract documents shall be reflected in the Inspection Daily Reports (IDR)
  • The IDR shall be completed daily and include each pay item with the contractor's daily activities
  • Documentation of quality issues that my result in Non-Conformance Reports (NCRs) or Quality Deficiency Reports (QDRs)
  • Creation of daily construction reports via Primavera Contract Management 13 (CM13) that track progress and daily activities. Provide copies of the report to the Resident Engineer at the end of each shift
  • Monitor jobsite safety and quality assurance documentation in compliance with FAA 139, Chicago Department of Aviation (CDA) Airport Safety Manual and OSHA requirements. Alert the Safety Manager and QAQC Manager of all deficiencies
  • Chronologically complete daily Field Book entries in accordance with the Program and IDOT documentation requirements
  • Record day's activities, manpower and equipment throughout the shift of the Field Book
  • Actively takes progress photos and photos of any problem/deficiencies for documentation
  • Tracks construction activities to complete CDA Work Reports for field orders or any work to be paid for as Time and Material (T&M)
  • Actively participate in all progress meetings

Experience Requirements:
  • Experience working on civil construction projects as field inspector or recent graduate with either an engineering or construction management degree

Certifications:
  • IDOT Documentation
  • Proficiency in basic computer programs
