Job Title: System and Deployment Engineer


Job Location: Storrs


Job Function: Engineering

Required Travel: 0 - 40%


Help bring advanced laser technology systems from development to real-world application. In this role, you will combine systems engineering expertise with handsโ€‘on customer deployment experience, ensuring innovative solutions are successfully designed, validated, installed, and optimized for customers around the world.


What You'll Do

  • Design, integrate, and validate complex system architectures, modules, and features that support the evolution of TESCAN Laser Technology solutions.

  • Lead system installations, commissioning activities, and site acceptance testing to ensure successful customer deployments.

  • Prepare systems for deployment by ensuring configurations, documentation, and technical requirements are complete and ready for customer use.

  • Diagnose and resolve complex systemโ€‘level issues during development, testing, installation, and field operations.

  • Analyze field performance data and customer feedback to identify opportunities for design improvements, enhanced reliability, and improved serviceability.

  • Develop and maintain technical documentation, system specifications, procedures, and service guidelines that support product deployment and longโ€‘term performance.

  • Collaborate closely with engineering, applications, operations, and service teams to ensure exceptional system performance throughout the product lifecycle.

  • Support continuous improvement initiatives that enhance deployment efficiency, reduce downtime, and improve customer satisfaction.


What You'll Bring

  • Master's degree in Engineering, Physics, Materials Science, or a related technical discipline.

  • Experience working with complex technical systems such as laser technologies, optics, automation systems, scientific instrumentation, or similar advanced technologies.

  • Handsโ€‘on experience with system integration, testing, validation, and troubleshooting in a technical environment.

  • Experience supporting installation, commissioning, or field deployment of advanced equipment and systems.

  • Strong problemโ€‘solving capabilities across both hardware and software environments.

  • Ability to diagnose root causes and develop practical solutions to complex technical challenges.

  • Excellent technical communication and documentation skills.

  • Ability to work effectively across crossโ€‘functional teams and customerโ€‘facing environments.

  • Willingness to travel internationally up to 50%.

  • Experience with electron microscopy (SEM), focused ion beam (FIB), microโ€‘CT, or related technologies is a plus.
