Position Description:

Develops scalable software applications by utilizing server-side/mid-tier languages, frameworks, libraries, and related technologies (Java EE, Apache Tomcat, Spring MVC/Spring Boot, Logback, SLF4j, and Maven) and client-side languages, libraries, and frameworks (Angular, JavaScript/TypeScript, Node, NPM, HTML/CSS, and RxJS). Leverages client-side unit testing frameworks and test runners including Jasmine and Karma to improve software applications. Develops REST services to integrate with enterprise messaging systems (ActiveMQ, Kafka, and ASB). Builds and deploys applications using Continuous Integration/Continuous Deployment (CI/CD) tools (Jenkins, Maven, and uDeploy). Provides business solutions by developing complex software applications following modern test driven and automation driven software development methodologies.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Develops original and creative technical solutions to on-going development efforts.

  • Designs applications or subsystems on major projects and for/in multiple platforms.

  • Develops applications for multiple projects supporting several divisional initiatives.

  • Supports and performs all phases of testing leading to implementation.

  • Assists in the planning and conducting of user acceptance testing.

  • Develops comprehensive documentation for multiple applications supporting several corporate initiatives.

  • Responsible for post-installation testing of any problems.

  • Establishes project plans for projects of moderate scope.

  • Works on complex assignments and often multiple phases of a project.

  • Performs independent and complex technical and functional analysis for multiple projects supporting several initiatives.

Education and Experience:

Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Information Technology, Information Systems, or a closely related field (or foreign education equivalent) and three (3) years of experience as a Senior Software Engineer/Developer (or closely related occupation) designing and developing Cloud-native applications according to event-driven and micro-service architecture, in a financial or brokerage domain.

Or, alternatively, Master's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Information Technology, Information Systems, or a closely related field (or foreign education equivalent) and one (1) year of experience as a Senior Software Engineer/Developer (or closely related occupation) designing and developing Cloud-native applications according to event-driven and micro-service architecture, in a financial or brokerage domain.

Skills and Knowledge:

Candidate must also possess:

  • Demonstrated Expertise ("DE") building highly scalable Spring Boot microservices using RESTful architecture and JSON, and using Spring Data for persistence; delivering web applications with Object Oriented (OO) principles and design patterns to support performant, large scale distributed enterprise systems; and analyzing, designing, coding, debugging, unit testing, automating testing, and releasing scalable JEE/J2EE applications.

  • DE performing DevOps engineering, including CI/CD using Jenkins and uDeploy, and version control using Git; and developing automated tests with Cucumber or Karate to support seamless application builds, deployments, and automated validation of software functionality.

  • DE developing Azure cloud components, including Azure Functions, Azure Service Bus, Azure Blob Storage, Azure Kubernetes Service (AKS), Azure SQL Database, Cache for Redis, and Azure SDKs to support event driven, serverless architectures and enable faster, cost efficient application development and scaling.

  • DE performing database design and development using relational and NoSQL databases (Cassandra and MongoDB); developing Java middleware applications using data integration tools -- ActiveMQ, Kafka and RESTful Web services -- for message driven microservices architecture that process changing un-structured data across multiple platforms; writing database schemas using SQL; writing database stored procedures using PL/SQL; and performing database operations using persistence frameworks -- JPA and Hibernate.
