Summary:
The role encompasses identification, screening, and evaluation for learners from birth through age 22, including conducting initial assessments, completing re-evaluations, and reviewing medical records when appropriate. These evaluative processes determine how hearing levels influence access to instruction and guide the development of individualized supports. Under the supervision of the Special Education Director, this position provides high-quality educational services to deaf and hard of hearing students from preschool through high school. The position supports team participation in planning and implementing student programs; fosters communication and social skill development; promotes interdepartmental collaboration; and strengthens parent-teacher-student partnerships. There are opportunities to develop and integrate adaptive technology, vocational education, and inclusive practices with general education settings.
Qualifications:
  • Minnesota Teacher Licensure in Deaf/Hard of Hearing.
  • Sign Language proficiency is preferred.

Job Duties:
  • Identification, Screening, and Evaluation
    • Complete initial evaluations and re-evaluations and assessments for students throughout the district (B-21).
    • Gather and review appropriate medical records as applicable.
    • Interpret results of audiological assessments and perform assessments of functional listening to determine the effect of hearing loss on a student's ability to learn.
  • Service Delivery
    • Facilitate accommodations and modifications to educational materials, assistive technology, and the instructional environment.
    • Provide direct and indirect D/HH services to students throughout the district.
    • Gather, monitor, review and communicate data to school staff, student and families. Recommend programming or accommodations based on data.
    • Identify the need for, assist in the selection of, and provide work direction to interpreters when necessary.
  • Consultation and Collaboration
    • Attend, provide input, and help determine appropriate accommodations, modifications, and supports.
    • Advise on the selection of specialized equipment and instructional materials/supplies when the need for Assistive Technology (AT) is identified.
    • Monitor the use of necessary equipment to ensure proper functioning as well as consistency and fidelity of use.
  • Professional Development
    • Provide ongoing training to educational teams in the areas of: use and care of specialized equipment and curriculum materials, use of accommodations and modifications, other D/HH related topics.
    • Develop resources pertinent to D/HH services.

PHYSICAL/MENTAL REQUIREMENTS:

Work is performed in a standard office environment and school health clinic setting which requires moderate physical strength and agility to include sitting, standing, walking, bending, reaching and occasional lifting, moving and carrying of up to 20 pounds; requires manual dexterity and visual acuity to perform required job tasks; performance of duties is subject to exposure to hazardous chemicals, infectious diseases, and air/blood borne pathogens; must be capable of responding to emergencies at the school site in a timely manner and performing CPR.

Work is performed in a school setting.
Travel required to locations throughout the District.

Range: BA, Step 0: $48,039.00
MA, Step 0: $52,223.00
