GENERAL POSITION SMMARY:

This is an entry to intermediate level position that exists to produce Orenco products. A successful OMT (Orenco Manufacturing Tech) will move with a sense of purpose and urgency from task to task, be cooperative, demonstrate drive/self-motivation, stay positive in the face of difficulties, make good use of work time, work well with other team members, and retain information.


ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS & KRA:

> Safety/Culture

  • Continuously maintains Orenco Management's safety, cultural, and professional standards.
  • Promotes, encourages, and reinforces a positive safety culture, safe practices, and a safe work environment to all employees.
  • Loads or fills molds with appropriate raw materials, pays attention to detail.
  • Reads production drawings and assembles various subcomponents into finished products using epoxies, glues, resins, screws, nuts, and bolts.
  • Trims, sands, grinds, drills, and/or routers fiberglass parts into accurate finished products.
  • Recognizes part defects and makes appropriate repairs.
  • Uses PPE (personal protective equipment) in the correct manner and performs proper chemical storage and labeling.
  • Uses power tools in a safe manner, maintains equipment, and cleans work area on a daily basis.
  • Pays close attention to detail when completing any task.
  • Follows SOP's (standard operating procedure) and MOP's (machine operating procedure) in all areas.
  • Uses tablet and computer to enter and retrieve data.
  • Keeps Lead Technician and Supervisor informed of any material, equipment, safety, or quality issues.
  • Reads and interprets work orders, completing projects in preparation for shipment using manufacturing drawings and established SOP's.
  • Sets up and uses various jigs and fixtures.
  • Boxes, packages, and labels various finished products in preparation for shipment.
  • Empties shop trash cans and cardboard bins.
  • Operates the cardboard compacter when needed.
  • Work to be done during manufacturing business hours, which may include an occasional early and/or later shift as needed. Occasional overtime may be required.
  • Regular, consistent, and predictable attendance is required.
  • Performs other duties as assigned in any area assigned.

Composites - North Bank Facility

  • Processes foam to exact dimensions.
  • Sandblasts and applies gelcoat consistently and with great attention to detail.
  • Places vents, injectors, manifolds, bagging material, and pleats in proper locations.
  • Sets up and measures materials for infusion and operates vacuum equipment.
  • Applies cleaner, sealer, release agents, and RTV (room-temperature-vulcanizing silicone) to infusion molds in proper manner.
  • Understands and complies with confined space requirements.
  • Familiar with all aspects of proper fiberglass lay-up procedures.
  • Assembles fiberglass and PVC (Polyvinyl Chloride) components in exact locations using epoxies, glues, and resins.
  • Demonstrates knowledge of correct fiberglass types for each application.
  • Understands how resin moves through various substrates based on different conditions such as heat, catalyst percentage, etc.
  • Uses sheeter and scissors to cut fiberglass to proper dimensions.

EDUCATION:

No minimum required


KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS/EXPERIENCE:

  • Less than one year of experience in Orenco Manufacturing shops.
  • Completion of the two-hour Emergency Response & HW (HazWopper) Training, and annual follow up training is required.
  • Training description: Emergency communication, alarms, and evacuation routes, contingency plan implementation/emergency response procedures, emergency equipment use.

Hazardous waste management - handling and storage rules.

  • Good communication and team building skills.
  • Ability to follow instructions, work quickly, efficiently, independently, and as a team member.
  • Ability to use and read a tape measure.
  • Ability to prioritize, schedule, and perform multiple tasks to make efficient use of available time.
  • Effectively communicates mechanical and/or electrical problems as well as part quality issues with Lead Techs, Maintenance Techs, Product Development and Engineering staff.
  • Consistently meets production standards.
  • Keeps work area clean and free of safety hazards.
  • Attends and participates in team meetings.
  • Is familiar with and able to follow approved safe handling and storage procedures for various composite chemicals.
  • Distinguishes differences in materials of similar type, look, and feel.
  • Basic math skills with the ability to use a calculator.
  • Basic computer ability.
  • Ability to be trained and safely operate various power tools and other equipment.
  • Effectively communicates safety issues and concerns.
  • Avoids disruptive behaviors that negatively impact the team.
  • Ability to be flexible and adjust to priority changes with little notice and to remain calm during confrontational or high-pressure situations.
  • Ability to use sound judgement and follow-through in problem-solving and decision-making processes.

WORKING CONDITIONS:

Indoor/outdoor production environment involving exposure to chemicals and dust. Some tasks may be performed in Alternate Entry or true Confined Spaces. Respirators may be required for most jobs and are required for certain, very specific job duties within the class. Employee must be medically certified and receive proper fit testing and training before use. Protective equipment such as Tyvek suits, dust masks, ear protection, and gloves are provided. Forced air hoods are not required but are available for use in the grinding area upon request. These do not require a medical evaluation or fit testing but do require a one time training on use and maintenance.


PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

Regular job duties include seeing, speaking, hearing, reading, writing, keyboarding, time viewing a computer screen, prolonged periods of standing and walking on concrete floors, kneeling, climbing stairs and ladders, reaching, pushing, pulling, grasping, holding, bending, twisting, stooping, squatting, repetitive foot and hand movement with good manual dexterity. Regular job duties require frequent unassisted lifting of up to 50 lbs. and occasionally up to 70 lbs., lifting over 70 lbs. must be assisted.
