Job Description

Title: Engineering Technician

Location: Seattle, WA

Duration: 1Year

Responsibilities:

Field Work:

  • Conduct pre-construction site surveys to verify cable routing, identify any obstacles that may result in additional construction costs, and take field measurements.
  • Assist in the creation of splice plans, test plans, and other documentation items as directed by the project manager.
  • Monitor fiber optic plant construction activities to ensure products are being installed within customer guidelines and manufacturer standard recommended procedures.
  • Conduct weekly safety audits to ensure all contractors are working within client and OSHA safety guidelines
  • Provide daily reports to the project manager outlining construction progress on all installations located in the assigned area of responsibility.
  • Troubleshoot potential warranty issues using client provided equipment such as Optical Time Domain Reflectometers (OTDR), Visual Fault Locators (VFL), and Optical Test Sets.

Other Duties:

  • Visit customers on a weekly basis to ensure customer satisfaction and discuss any new projects being planned.
  • Conduct inventory activities, as requested, of client owned construction materials located at contractor controlled yards.

Required Qualifications:

  • High School diploma or equivalent
  • Working knowledge of fiber optic testing procedures
  • Working knowledge of spreadsheets, word processing software, and email applications
  • 100% fluent in English

Desired Qualifications:

  • Knowledge of building splice plans.
  • Knowledge/experience with field/site walk-outs.
  • Hands-on experience splicing and testing fiber optic networks
  • Ability to speak Spanish or other languages is a plus.
  • Experience providing hands-on instruction in either a field or classroom
