Survey Drafter
JOB SUMMARY:
This position is primarily responsible for (1) drafting various survey drawings and maps including boundary surveys, topographic surveys, asbuilt surveys, encroachment surveys, land tie surveys, access easements, substation easements, fiber crossings, and necessary exhibits; (2) prepare land legal descriptions for land acquisition efforts; (3) supports the survey field crews and office personnel by researching existing survey and real estate records, contacting local and state agencies for right-of-way information and transmitting completed projects. (4) transmitting drawings to appropriate workgroups and uploading electronic drawings to SoCo database (Vault); (5) ability to effectively communicate with other departments, companies, counties, cities and municipalities.
JOB REQUIREMENTS:(Education, Experience, Knowledge, Skills and Abilities)
Education and Experience
  • High School diploma is required.
  • Valid Alabama divers license.
  • A degree in Computer Aided Drafting or similar suitable technical degree is preferred.
  • A minimum of 1 year Land Survey related CAD drafting experience is required.
  • Extensive experience, working knowledge and the ability to research public documentation and records to produce signed Survey Plats.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
  • Proficiency in Computer Aided Drafting
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Office Products
  • Ability to research and understand land rights and legal documents (i.e. survey plats and maps, deeds, legal descriptions and other conveyances involving land rights)
  • Possess and demonstrate problem solving (trouble shooting) skills
  • Knowledge of surveying procedures for a variety of survey types
  • Knowledgeable of Alabama's "Standards of Practice" for surveying
  • Knowledgeable of Alabama's Public Land Survey System (U.S. System of Rectangular Surveys).
  • Necessary skills to adapt to rapidly changing circumstances while working on multiple tasks/projects and ability to be productive, decisive and efficient in periods of short time constraints and resource limitations
  • Strong verbal, listening and written communication skills
  • Strong teamwork skills
  • Strong customer service focus - sense of urgency
