Job description

Description

We are looking for a results-driven and detail-oriented Installation Repair Technician who combines a great work ethic with the ability to apply critical thinking and smart-handed skills to envision and deliver customer delight. It is also important that you demonstrate excellent communication and interpersonal skills to effectively interact with customers and colleagues.


As a Installation & Repair Technician, you will be expected to utilize experience, technical aptitude, critical thinking and proven techniques to provide our customers with technology solutions in all areas they require. You will additionally be required to splice, maintain and repair all underground, direct bury, and aerial cables used to High-Speed Data service over all fiber optic plants.



Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Splices/terminates fiber optic cable according to standard procedure and company, governmental and electrical specifications.
  • Maintains, tests, and measures fiber optic signal strength using test equipment from street to house.
  • Installs telecommunications services by identifying and connecting correct cables at the vault/tap; installing temporary drop if possible; installing inside wiring; installing fiber optic equipment at the customer premise; connecting wireless devices and testing service.
  • Communicates independently, effectively, clearly and professionally with customers, outside technical staff, employees, supervisors and managers. Establishes and maintains considerate and cooperative relationships with coworkers, supervisors, and customers.
  • Operates both hand tools, including drills, saws, and test equipment, including Optical Power Meters (OPM), and Volt Ohm Meters (VOM).
  • Maintains vaults and taps as needed. Reports any maintenance required to supervisor
  • Travels to sites as necessary and on-demand via company vehicle, complying with traffic laws, safety rules, regulations and practices.
  • Accesses cable, pedestals and other equipment by climbing ladders, entering crawlspaces or attics, walking through muddy areas or through brush and by digging.
  • Maintains equipment, tools and vehicles in working condition; submits and fills out necessary clerical forms such as time, mileage, gas tickets and material and equipment charge-outs.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.


Requirements

Minimum Qualifications: (Only candidates who meet the minimum qualifications will be considered.)

  • High School graduate or General Education Diploma
  • Telecommunications (Fiber Optic, Telephone, CATV) experience preferred
  • Ability to communicate effectively with customers, employees and management
  • Valid driver's license with history of safe driving record
  • Knowledge of current industry-related terminology, procedures, and equipment preferred
  • Must possess the ability to work in confined spaces such as attics and crawl spaces. Must also be able to tolerate environmental conditions associated with confined spaces.
  • Must be able to work from a ladder while using the required hand tools

Additional Qualifications Desired:

  • Ability to read and interpret construction drawings
  • Basic understanding of service order flow and process
  • IPTV/ ADSL Installation and repair experience
  • Understanding of RUS and Company construction standards and specifications
  • Basic computer knowledge
  • Basic electricity knowledge
