Job description

CR Fletcher is seeking a Fiber Optic Field Technician for a Syracuse based Communications company that is expanding their fiber-optic network across Central New York.
This role focuses on customer installations, service calls, and troubleshooting for residential and business customers. While fiber splicing experience is a plus, this is primarily a hands-on field position involving equipment installation, network diagnostics, and customer support.
Responsibilities
  • Install and activate fiber internet, voice, and managed Wi-Fi services
  • Install, terminate, test, and troubleshoot fiber and Ethernet cabling
  • Configure ONTs, routers, Wi-Fi systems, and customer equipment
  • Diagnose connectivity, network, wiring, and wireless issues
  • Perform occasional fiber splicing and repair when needed
  • Educate customers on equipment and services
  • Complete service documentation and maintain a safe, organized work environment
  • Work independently while coordinating with dispatch and support teams
Qualifications
  • 3+ years of experience in fiber optics, telecommunications, cable, networking, low-voltage, or a related field
  • Strong troubleshooting and mechanical skills
  • Experience working in homes and businesses
  • Excellent customer service and communication skills
  • Ability to lift equipment, climb ladders, and work in attics, crawl spaces, and outdoor environments
  • Valid driver's license with a good driving record
  • Reliable, self-motivated, and able to work independently
