Job description

General Summary:

Typically operates heavy equipment such as backhoes/mini excavators, vibratory plows, aerial digger truck, directional boring machine, bucket trucks and trenchers in burying cable plant and service drops at customer locations. Installation and maintenance of broadband and telecommunication services.

Essential Job Functions:

  • Places buried and aerial cable by operating a variety of heavy equipment.
  • Buries service drops at customer locations with assigned equipment.
  • Restores and cleans up work area when job is completed.
  • Maintains equipment by performing or scheduling routine and emergency maintenance.
  • Installs/troubleshoots/maintains broadband, and other telecommunication services.
  • Provides exceptional customer service to internal and external customers.
  • Interacts in a professional, courteous manner with customers, prospective customers, visitors, and vendors. Works positively and cooperatively with co-workers.
  • Demonstrates knowledge and expertise of company's policies, procedures, confidentiality guidelines and supports the company's overall mission.

Additional Responsibilities:

  • Responds to outside plant emergency calls as needed.
  • Perform other duties/special projects as required.
  • Participate on behalf of the company in community and company sponsored activities as requested.
  • Attend safety meetings and maintains a safe working environment.
  • Ensure that materials and labor are accounted for on Work Orders.
  • Ensure that As-Build maps are provided to the Engineering Dept for documentation/records
  • Assist with inventory needs.
  • Assist with locating underground Fiber Optic and opening 811 tickets


Qualifications:

  • High school diploma with two years of telecommunication education or equivalent work experience in telecommunications/electronics. Proficient knowledge in telecommunications technology is required. Technology training or telecommunications degree a plus.
  • Must maintain a good driving record and a valid CDL driver's license. Be able to pass and maintain DOT physical.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Knowledge of telecommunication construction and cable installation practices and procedures.
  • Knowledge of state and federal safety regulations.
  • Knowledge of company products/services, policies, and procedures.
  • Skill in operating various heavy machinery and construction equipment.
  • Ability to learn and apply fiber splicing techniques and color code on buried and aerial fiber.
  • Ability to read and interpret a variety of document such as maps and staking sheets.
  • Good listening, verbal and written communication skills.
  • Skill in prioritizing, completing multiple tasks, identifying problems and finding resolutions.
  • Ability to communicate with customers, co-workers, and various business contacts in a professional and courteous manner.
  • Ability to meet deadlines, perform under stress and achieve optimum results.
  • Ability to work with frequent interruptions and to pay close attention to detail.
  • Maintain strict confidentiality guidelines in accordance with company policy.
  • Demonstrates dependability through good attendance and adherence to timelines and schedules.
  • Ability to effectively function as a team player and project a positive attitude.
  • Able and willing to continue business skill development.
  • Able and willing to be on call and work extended hours, weekends and holidays.
  • Ability to work on and in a bucket/digger truck, climb poles and work in confined areas.
  • Ability to drive.
  • Must be able to distinguish colors.
