Learning Opportunities Through Stories (LOTS) & Friends, Family, Neighbor (FFN) Summer Facilitator
Temporary Summer ECFE Position
Position Overview
The LOTS & FFN Summer Facilitator plans and leads engaging early childhood learning experiences for children ages birth to five and their caregivers. This position supports family engagement, early literacy, and play-based learning through weekly storytimes, activities, and interactive play sessions.
Facilitators are needed for the following locations (3 positions that could be combined):
  • West End
  • Grand Marais
  • Grand Portage

Positions may be filled by one facilitator serving multiple locations, or by separate facilitators at each site. A mileage stipend is available to staff who facilitate sessions at multiple locations.
Program Descriptions
Learning Opportunities Through Stories (LOTS)
LOTS Storytime is a family literacy program where caregivers and children ages birth to five hear stories, participate in activities, and take home a free book. Older siblings are welcome. Sessions are drop-in style with no registration required.
Friends, Family, Neighbor (FFN) Play Sessions
FFN play sessions provide opportunities for children ages birth to five, and for the friends, family members, neighbors, and caregivers who care for them, to participate in play-based learning experiences together.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
LOTS Responsibilities
  • Prepare materials and supplies for weekly sessions
  • Lead provided crafts and prepare activities, songs, or movement experiences connected to weekly themes or books
  • Read aloud and engage children and families using the provided take-home books
  • Create a welcoming and inclusive environment for children and caregivers
  • Support early literacy and family engagement opportunities
  • Distribute take-home books and materials as available

FFN Responsibilities
  • Plan and facilitate developmentally appropriate activities and learning centers for children ages birth to five
  • Encourage caregiver-child interaction through play
  • Prepare materials and supplies for weekly sessions
  • Create a welcoming environment for caregivers and children
  • Support positive relationships and community connections among participating families

General Responsibilities
  • Assist with setup and cleanup of program spaces
  • Communicate and collaborate with program coordinators and staff
  • Maintain a safe, organized, and child-friendly environment
  • Plan and facilitate all scheduled summer sessions

Schedule & Time Commitment
  • Eight (8) summer sessions for each program
  • LOTS sessions run approximately 45 minutes to 1 hour
  • FFN sessions run approximately 45 minutes to 1 hour
  • Programs may run back-to-back on the same day or separately on different days
  • Programs should be scheduled on a consistent day and time throughout the summer
  • Scheduling will be based on facilitator availability and site needs
  • Sessions may be offered weekday mornings, afternoons, evenings, or weekend mornings

Qualifications
  • Experience working with young children and families
  • Experience or interest in early childhood education, literacy, or family engagement
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to plan engaging activities for young children and their caregivers
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively
  • Must pass a background check

Compensation
  • $75 stipend per week, per location, for LOTS facilitation
  • $75 stipend per week, per location, for FFN facilitation
  • Up to $1,200 for facilitating both programs for 8 sessions at one location
  • Mileage reimbursement available for facilitators traveling between multiple locations
