President and Chief Executive Officer

Based in Mount Laurel, New Jersey, Samaritan is one of the nation's oldest, independent, not-for-profit hospice and palliative care providers. 

Forty years ago, in a house in Moorestown, NJ, a half dozen dedicated humanitarians convened with passion in their hearts and a hefty goal to bring comfort at the end of life to all the members of this community. Today, Samaritan cares for more than 11,000 families each year throughout Burlington, Camden, Gloucester, Mercer and Atlantic Counties in South Jersey - and maintains a strong reputation among health systems, referral sources, community organizations and payers throughout the region. Samaritan seeks a mission-driven, business-savvy, and operationally accomplished Chief Executive Officer to lead one of the region's most respected not-for-profit hospice, palliative care, and advanced illness organizations. Building upon a longstanding legacy of clinical excellence, community trust, and compassionate service, the CEO will be responsible for advancing the organization's mission while guiding Samaritan through a period of leadership transition, evolving reimbursement models, increasing competition, workforce challenges, and significant opportunities for growth. The CEO will serve as the organization's principal leader, working closely with the Board of Trustees, leadership team, employees, donors, community partners, and other healthcare stakeholders to ensure Samaritan remains financially strong, operationally effective, and deeply connected to the communities it serves. 

The successful candidate will be a highly visible and collaborative leader with demonstrated strength in organizational transformation, financial stewardship, talent development, and relationship building. The CEO will be charged with strengthening organizational trust, fostering a high-performing culture, supporting productive labor relations, and developing a focused strategic vision for Samaritan's next chapter. This leader will balance internal leadership with external engagement, serving as an ambassador for the organization while ensuring accountability, operational rigor, and exceptional quality outcomes across all areas of the enterprise.

The Chief Executive Officer will bring a blend of strategic vision, financial and business savvy, relationship orientation and emotional intelligence. The ideal leader will be someone who can inspire teams, align stakeholders, and continue evolving a modern community hospice and palliative care service provider. This is an opportunity to help define the future of Samaritan and hospice care in Southern NJ. 

The ideal candidate will have the following experience and qualifications:

Approximately 10 years of senior leadership experience within a healthcare, nonprofit healthcare, hospice, post-acute care, health system, or related organization.

Proven success leading complex organizations through strategic, financial, operational, and cultural transformation.

Strong financial acumen, including experience overseeing budgets, operating performance, revenue growth, forecasting, and long-term financial sustainability.

Track record of developing high-performing leadership teams and strengthening organizational talent.

Exceptional communication, listening, relationship-building, and stakeholder engagement skills.

Experience working effectively with governing boards and navigating complex governance environments. 

Demonstrated ability to build organizational culture, increase employee engagement, and lead change with emotional intelligence and credibility.

Experience managing labor relations and/or leading within unionized work environments is strongly preferred.

Demonstrated knowledge of health care policies, regulation and legislation relevant to post-acute, palliative and/or end of life care is preferred; broader healthcare leadership experience is required.

Excellent written and verbal communication skills including public speaking abilities.
