JOB SUMMARY
Kaplow is seeking a Senior Account Executive, Media Specialist to lead media relations efforts across a portfolio of consumer brands. This role is ideal for a strategic storyteller and relationship builder who thrives in today's evolving media landscape and has a passion for securing impactful earned media coverage that drives business results.
The ideal candidate brings a strong understanding of traditional and digital media, creator and influencer ecosystems, emerging platforms, and modern discovery behaviors. They are equally comfortable developing strategy, pitching media, mentoring junior team members, and contributing to integrated client programs.
LOCATION
This role is intended for candidates based in the New York metropolitan area and follows Kaplow's hybrid work model.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Lead Earned Media Programs
• Develop and execute strategic earned media campaigns aligned with client objectives
• Build and maintain strong relationships with journalists, editors, creators, newsletter writers, and other influential voices
• Secure meaningful earned coverage through proactive pitching, media outreach, product seeding, events, and brand experiences
• Identify emerging trends, news opportunities, and cultural moments that can elevate client visibility.
Client & Account Management
• Serve as a trusted day-to-day media relations lead for client accounts
• Develop media strategies, pitch materials, messaging, briefing documents, and other communications assets
• Present recommendations confidently during client meetings and internal discussions
• Collaborate closely with account, strategy, creative, and influencer teams to deliver integrated programs
Strategy, Measurement, and Reporting
• Utilize media monitoring, analytics, and research tools to evaluate campaign effectiveness
• Analyze coverage, audience engagement, and industry trends to inform recommendations
• Leverage AI-enabled tools and technologies, in accordance with company policy, to support research, planning, reporting, and outreach efficiencies
Professional Development
• Coach and support junior team members, helping elevate media relations best practices across the agency
• Share insights, media intelligence, and industry developments with colleagues and clients
• Stay current on changes within the media, social, and creator landscapes
REQUIREMENTS
• 4+ years of experience in public relations, media relations, communications, or a related field
• Bachelor's degree in Communications, Marketing, Journalism, Liberal Arts, or a related discipline
• Strong track record of securing earned media coverage across consumer, lifestyle, retail, beauty, wellness, or related sectors
• Excellent written, verbal, and presentation skills
• Experience developing media strategies and managing multiple priorities in a fast-paced agency environment
• Familiarity with media databases, monitoring, and analytics platforms such as Cision, Muck Rack, Meltwater, and Google Analytics
• Understanding of SEO, search behavior, and the evolving ways audiences discover content
• Experience mentoring or supporting junior team members
• A proactive, collaborative mindset and a passion for great storytelling
COMPENSATION, BENEFITS & PERKS
The anticipated salary range for this position is $75,000 to $80,000 annually. Actual compensation will be determined based on a variety of factors, including relevant experience, demonstrated skills and expertise, market conditions, and internal equity considerations. In addition to base salary, employees are eligible for our nondiscretionary bonus program and comprehensive benefits package.
