Job description

Security Captain

Supervises security operations for an assigned shift, facility, campus, or operational area to provide protection and security for hospital assets, employees, patients, and visitors. The Security Captain is responsible for frontline leadership, personnel management, investigations, training oversight, operational consistency, and collaboration with hospital departments to maintain a safe and secure environment.

Responsibilities include supervising security officers and/or security lieutenants, maintaining confidentiality and professional standards, interpreting policies and procedures, managing emotional situations, assisting with emergency drills, leading incident command support, supervising training of new officers, conducting performance reviews, investigating incidents, managing personnel functions, overseeing daily operational performance, supporting implementation of security policies, promoting consistency in customer service, maintaining attendance, complying with hospital and departmental policies, participating in review of security policies, participating in QA and QI activities, working with patients, visitors, staff, and department leaders, serving as first step in the discipline process, performing administrative functions, maintaining working relationships with all departments, participating in special projects, and performing other related functions.

Qualifications include a high school diploma or equivalent, basic knowledge of Microsoft Word, an associate or bachelor's degree in criminal justice, security management, emergency management, homeland security, business, or related field, training in leadership, investigations, employee relations, incident command, and operational management, five years of progressive security, law enforcement, military security, corrections, or related public safety experience, two years of supervisory or management experience, healthcare security experience, a State of Florida Class "D" Security Officer License, CPI Certification, IAHSS Basic Certification or higher, IAHSS Supervisor Certification, Certified Healthcare Protection Administrator - CHPA, and FEMA IS-100, IS-200, IS-700 & IS-800 certifications.
