Job description

JOB SUMMARY
The Advanced Practice Provider (APP) Clinical Fellow - Physician Assistant (PA) is a licensed, certified, non-physician healthcare provider in training who actively renders direct patient care and possesses delegated prescriptive authority. The APP Clinical Fellow - PA is credentialed and privileged in accordance with the appropriate board and provides medical and surgical care based upon the scope of practice as delineated by the supervising staff.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS OF THE ROLE
ESSENTIAL FUNCTION OF THE JOB
Participates in the clinical evaluation and care of patients in a variety of patient care settings under the direct supervision of attending staff.
Writes orders and progress notes in patient charts, with attending physicians retaining responsibility for patient care and reviewing care provided.
Performs procedures specified by the program director under direct and/or indirect supervision of attending physicians and staff.
Assumes progressive responsibility for patient care activities according to the Clinical Fellow's level of education, ability, and experience, as determined by the attending staff.
Communicates effectively with supervising attending physicians and staff regarding evaluation findings, physical examination results, diagnostic test interpretations, and intended interventions.
Participates fully in educational and scholarly activities of the program, including teaching and supervising other Clinical Fellows and students.
Participates in institutional committees and councils impacting education and patient care, including quality assurance and improvement activities.
Develops a personal program of learning for continued professional growth with guidance from the teaching staff.
Mentors residents and students in their clinical and academic pursuits within their scope of expertise.
First or second assists in the operating room and/or procedural setting, meeting all required training and competency levels if enrolled in a surgical APP Clinical Fellowship.
Performs invasive and advanced procedures, as delegated by the supervising physician, if applicable to their specialty and within the scope and privileges of the APP Clinical Fellow.
KEY SUCCESS FACTORS
Knowledge of information and techniques needed to diagnose and treat human injuries, diseases, and deformities to include symptoms, treatment alternatives, drug properties and interactions, and preventive healthcare measures.
Knowledge of principles, methods, and procedures for diagnosis, treatment, and rehabilitation of physical and mental dysfunctions.
Ability to interpret and evaluate laboratory and other diagnostic tests.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
Strong interpersonal skills.
Critical thinking and complex problem-solving skills.
Ability to work effectively in a team environment.
Skill in the use of computers and related software applications.
Masters degree preferred.
