Job description

Cardiac Monitoring Technician

This position is responsible for performing Electrocardiography testing (ECG, EKG), for both outpatient and inpatient settings, arranging for transtelephonic monitoring, Holter / Event Monitor placement, managing daily workflow associated with the ECG lab, completion of appropriate paperwork and follow up of test results and billing associated with specific test ordered by the physician, training of clinic and hospital staff to perform ECG's and Cardiac Monitors, troubleshooting equipment, and system malfunctions.

Essential Functions:

  1. Perform electrocardiograms on outpatients and inpatients.
  2. Perform Holter and Event Monitoring as ordered by physicians both inpatient and outpatient. Obtain insurance information and obtain approval from IVR team.
  3. Arrange for transtelephonic monitoring on patients as ordered by physicians. Placement of monitors on patients and/or delivering to parent to perform home hook up. Communicate detailed instructions to parents regarding paperwork (dairy, FedEx), demonstrate proper lead placement and procedures to hook up monitor and run baseline testing. From lab or home, explain method for return of monitor via FedEx when monitoring is complete.
  4. Data entry for the billing of tests to be performed daily.
  5. Processing of cardiac monitoring results/reports from monitoring service website, download completed reports to be reviewed and signed by ordering physicians.
  6. Ensuring timely result reporting from physicians.
  7. Billing reconciliation for inpatient and outpatient ECG, Holter and Event Monitors.
  8. Troubleshooting EKG system software for malfunction, working with Cardiac IT team to ensure proper functioning of EKG software.
  9. Troubleshooting of equipment; EKG Machines, Holter Monitors, and Event Monitors.
  10. Respond to parent/patient and physicians' inquiries about monitoring status.
  11. Training of new 2B and CICU Unit Clerks, PICU, NICU, and ED techs, who cover ECG lab on nights and weekends, on proper procedures and standards for performing an EKG.
  12. Training of new Nurses and MA's that will support satellite Cardiology clinics and perform EKG Only's at Specialty and Primary Care satellite locations.

Requirements:

High School diploma

1-2 years' experience, pediatrics preferred, MA Certification and exercise testing experience a plus

Previous Cardiac / ECG experience required

ECG certification preferred

1-3 years of job related experience required.
