Overview The Sr GIS Web Engineer responsible for designing, developing, integrating, and optimizing GIS โ€‘ driven web mapping capabilities for the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA), Office of Information and Technology (OIT), Product Delivery Services (PDS), Benefits and Memorials (BAM), Memorial and Benefit Services (MBS) deliver secure, reliable, and effective Information Technology (IT) solutions that support the Department's mission . Responsibilities * Supports cemetery mapping, operational GIS functions, data pipelines, and geospatial user experiences critical to the Memorial Benefits Services Product Line * Manage GIS data models, ETL pipelines, and geospatial integrations. * Develop GIS and cemetery mapping capabilities for VA โ€‘ * Integrate GIS data pipelines, mapping services, APIs, and visualization layers into web applications. * Build high โ€‘ quality GIS โ€‘ enabled UI/UX components using modern web technologies * Ensure authoritative GIS data accuracy and up โ€‘ to โ€‘ date geospatial information across VA systems. (Supported by GIS Data / API Integration Engineer responsibilities) * Collaborate with GIS Data / API Integration Engineers to manage ETL pipelines for geospatial datasets * Integrate GIS components with VA โ€‘ EISS business logic, APIs, databases, and microservices. Qualifications Required: * Bachelor's Degree in computer science or an IT-related degree with 7-10 years' experience * Experience developing web mapping applications, geospatial visualizations, and spatially โ€‘ enabled systems. * Experience integrating GIS services, APIs, ETL pipelines, and authoritative geospatial data sources. * Experience with enterprise GIS (ESRI, ArcGIS Online/Portal), mapping libraries (Leaflet, OpenLayers, ArcGIS JS API), and spatial databases. * Experience working in Agile environments and supporting continuous integration and automated testing * Demonstrated production web application development + GIS; web mapping APIs/SDKs; spatial services; JavaScript/TypeScript; REST; responsive UX; spatial data; automated testing * Public Trust Preferred: * Supported NCA memorials: eligibility, burial scheduling, interment, monuments; VA Product Owner support Salary Range: $131,000 - $158,000 This role is in the proposal stage. The above salary range represents a general guideline.
