We are currently seeking a detail-oriented Payroll Specialist to join our growing team in Central Point, OR.
This role is ideal for a payroll professional who thrives in a compliance-driven environment and has a strong foundation in full-cycle payroll processes. The position focuses on standard payroll processing functions, including accurate wage calculations, deductions, and payroll reconciliation, while also supporting union reporting and related compliance activities. About the Role
As a Payroll Specialist, you will play a critical role in ensuring the accurate and timely processing of payroll while maintaining compliance with federal, state, and local regulations. This position is responsible for full-cycle payroll functions, including wage calculations, deductions, timekeeping validation, and payroll reconciliation. In addition to core payroll responsibilities, you will support union reporting and related compliance requirements, maintain accurate payroll records, and assist with audits as needed.
This role requires strong attention to detail, analytical skills, and the ability to manage multiple deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
Key Responsibilities
  • Maintains payroll information by directing the collection, calculation, and entering of data
  • Updates payroll records by reviewing and approving changes in exemptions, insurance coverage, savings deductions, job titles, and department/ division transfers
  • Pays employees by directing the production and issuance of paychecks or electronic transfers to bank accounts
  • Prepares reports by compiling summaries of earnings, taxes, deductions, leave, disability, and non-taxable wages
  • Validates payroll liabilities by approving the calculation of employee federal and state income and social security taxes, and employer's social security, unemployment, and workers compensation payments
  • Understanding of unions and union remittances
  • Balances the payroll accounts by resolving payroll discrepancies
  • Provides payroll information by answering questions and requests
  • Complies with federal, state, and local legal requirements by studying existing and new legislation; enforcing adherence to requirements; advising management on needed actions
  • Maintains employee confidence and protects payroll operations by keeping confidential information
  • Maintains professional and technical knowledge by attending educational workshops; reviewing professional publications; establishing personal networks; participating in professional societies
  • Contributes to team effort by accomplishing related results as needed
  • Perform other administrative tasks as assigned

What You Bring
  • 4+ years of payroll experience required
  • Experience processing prevailing wage and certified payroll
  • Strong time management and organizational skills
  • Understanding of compensation and wage structures, benefits administration, union agreements, and prevailing wage regulations
  • Proven experience managing multi-state payroll operations, including knowledge of state-specific tax withholdings, unemployment insurance (SUI), and regulatory compliance

Preferred Requirements and Education:
  • 6+ years of payroll experience preferred
  • Bachelor's degree strongly preferred
  • Experience with ADP and/or Vista Viewpoint preferred
