An FDIC Internship is a paid opportunity for students to gain hands-on experience in banking regulation, financial analysis, and public policy. Interns work alongside professionals to support the FDIC's mission of maintaining financial stability and consumer protection. The program provides exposure to real-world financial systems, auditing, and risk assessment. It is designed for students pursuing degrees in finance, economics, accounting, or related fields.
FDIC interns are often involved in diverse assignments such as assisting with bank examination processes, conducting financial analysis, and supporting research for supervision or policy initiatives. You may be tasked with gathering and organizing financial data, preparing reports, or shadowing experienced examiners on-site at banks. The work is collaborative, allowing you to learn from regulatory professionals and contribute to real-world banking oversight. These projects are designed to give interns valuable insight into the FDIC’s mission and core operations while building skills for future careers in finance or government.
To thrive as an FDIC Intern, you typically need a solid foundation in finance, economics, or related fields, supported by current enrollment in a relevant degree program. Familiarity with spreadsheet and data analysis tools such as Microsoft Excel, as well as basic knowledge of financial regulations, is advantageous. Strong analytical thinking, attention to detail, effective communication, and a collaborative attitude help interns excel in this environment. These competencies enable interns to contribute meaningfully to projects, support regulatory functions, and learn from professionals in the federal banking sector.
