The Fiber Splicer must be available to support a 24/7/365 operation, including emergency response during network outages and natural disasters.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
  • Splice fiber optic drops and pigtails using a core alignment splicing machine; repair underground drop pipes, re-pull underground fiber drops, and splice drops from the distribution vault to the premise NID as needed.
  • Install, maintain, and troubleshoot OSP distribution fiber from the Main OLT Hub and FDH cabinets through to the end user; install and maintain splitter cabinets, patch panels, NIDs, and associated equipment.
  • Place fiber inside customer premises ranging from single-family units to MDU high-rises with precision and professionalism.
  • Utilize optical test equipment including OTDR, PON meters, volt/ohm meters, toners, and other diagnostic tools to test, certify, and validate all IQ Fiber services.
  • Respond to and resolve service outages efficiently, remaining in service until issues are resolved; maintain readiness during on-call periods, including staying within the local market and available with company-provided communications.
  • Perform contractor QA checks and ensure all field work meets established technical standards, safety requirements, and quality expectations.
  • Deliver the highest level of customer service in all residential and commercial field environments, maintaining a professional demeanor and clear communication at all times.
  • Maintain full accountability for safety, productivity, quality, and workmanship on all assignments; ensure compliance with OSHA standards and IQ Fiber policies.
  • Maintain all company equipment in field-ready condition; keep the assigned vehicle clean and professional and wear approved IQ Fiber branded clothing.
  • Support emergency schedules during natural disasters and network outages; work after hours, weekends, and mandatory overtime as business needs require.

Required Qualifications
  • 3-5 years of telecommunications experience required; strong knowledge of fiber splicing, OSP infrastructure, and network testing practices.
  • Proficiency with optical test equipment including OTDR, PON meters, volt/ohm meters, and toners; competency with core alignment splicing machines for drops and pigtails.
  • Must have and maintain a valid driver's license with a clean MVR and pass a pre-employment screening; ability to drive during nighttime and adverse weather conditions.
  • Computer skills sufficient to process trouble tickets; proficiency with Microsoft Excel and Word.
  • Must have close vision, color vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus with good hand-eye coordination.
  • Ability to lift 50 pounds repeatedly, climb ladders and work on utility poles up to 28 feet, and work in adverse weather conditions, attics, and crawlspaces.
  • Availability for a 24/7/365 operation including on-call rotations, emergency response, mandatory overtime, and after-hours and weekend work.

What Success Looks Like
  • Fiber splicing, testing, and troubleshooting are performed with precision, ensuring network integrity across OSP infrastructure and customer connections.
  • Service is maintained and restored efficiently, with outages responded to quickly and issues resolved to minimize downtime and support a reliable network.
  • Workmanship quality and safety standards are consistently upheld, with all installations and repairs meeting company and technical requirements on the first attempt.
  • Technical equipment including OTDR, PON meters, and other diagnostic tools is utilized effectively to validate and certify network performance accurately.
