UNIT DESCRIPTION
The Language Quality and Training Unit (LQTU) establishes and maintains the FBI's translation standards and quality control measures to ensure accurate language services products. LQTU provides professional development training to language analysts and independent contract linguists as well as foreign language training for other FBI job roles to increase the FBI's language readiness. The unit conducts robust data analysis to identify program gaps to improve the Foreign Language Program and represents the FBI at national organizations dedicated to foreign language proficiency and training standards.
KEY REQUIREMENTS
  • Must be a current, permanent FBI employee
  • Must be able to obtain an SCI clearance
  • Selectee will be required to complete form FD-887, Request for Access to Sensitive Compartmented Information (SCI)
MAJOR DUTIES
  • Serves on LQTU's team dedicated to implementing the FBI's translation quality guidelines.
  • Analyzes workloads to determine the need for quality reviews and selects random samples for reviews.
  • Identifies program, policy, and system gaps with translation quality through extensive research and makes recommendations to management to mitigate the gaps and improve the program.
  • Audits LQTU staff and field offices for correct implementation of quality guidelines.
  • Oversees projects and studies using quality review and other data sources and makes written recommendations to management to improve review processes and translations.
  • Determines solutions for conducting quality reviews in low-density languages and presents recommendations to management.
  • Collects requirements to enhance analytical and workflow management tools and liaises with system administrators to implement requirements and test enhancements.
  • Designs data visualizations and executive summaries on translation quality for Foreign Language Program executives.
  • Collaborates across the FBI's Foreign Language Program and with other divisions to resolve operational and compliance issues.
  • Reports language quality review activity to field offices and Foreign Language Program regional and field program managers.
  • Ensures quality reviews meet procedural standards.
  • Provides guidance to field office supervisors, language analysts, and independent contract linguists on translation quality guidelines and review procedures.
  • Presents on translation quality processes and guidelines to various audiences with the Foreign Language Program, Intelligence Community, and international partners.
