THE POSITION

Step into a rewarding role at Torrance State Hospital as a Psychiatric Aide. In this job, you help patients with important daily tasks while promoting a safe and supportive environment. DESCRIPTION OF WORK

This position provides direct patient care under the direction of a Registered Nurse while supporting therapeutic goals and daily routines. You help patients with everyday tasks, communicate clearly with staff, and maintain a safe treatment environment. As a Psychiatric Aide, you will perform the following duties:

  • Patient Care: Assist patients with daily living tasks including hygiene, meals, and room care
  • Therapeutic Support: Use communication techniques and crisis management skills to guide patient interactions
  • Safety Awareness: Follow hospital procedures and infection control practices to maintain a secure environment
  • Behavior Observation: Monitor and report patient behavior, condition, and changes to nursing staff
  • Treatment Assistance: Support individualized treatment plans and help patients participate in scheduled activities
  • Record Keeping: Document patient care information clearly and accurately in medical records

Work Schedule and Additional Information:

  • Full-time employment, 40 hours per week
  • Work hours are 3:00 PM to 11:30 PM, with a 30-minute lunch and every third weekend off.
  • Telework: You will not have the option to telework in this position.
  • Salary: In some cases, the starting salary may be non-negotiable.

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE, TRAINING & ELIGIBILITY

QUALIFICATIONS

Minimum Experience and Training Requirements:

  • Successful completion of the Aide Trainee program (Commonwealth job title or equivalent Federal Government job title, as determined by the Office of Administration); or
  • Six months of experience in the care, activities, and personal guidance of individuals with mental health or physical illness or disabilities; or
  • Certification as a Nurse Aide or Nursing Assistant through the Pennsylvania Department of Health.

  • You must be able to perform essential job functions.

  • A conditional offer of employment will require a medical examination and drug screening.
  • This position falls under the provisions of the Older Adult Protective Services Act.
