Emergency Department Technician

The George Washington University Hospital is a 385-bed academic medical center in downtown Washington, DC. Affiliated with the George Washington University School of Medicine and Health Sciences, we are committed to clinical excellence, innovative research, and healthcare education. Our Emergency Department is a fast-paced, high-acuity environment serving a diverse population with complex medical needs. As a Level I Trauma Center and academic hospital in the heart of Washington, DC, we offer advanced care in collaboration with multidisciplinary teams, ensuring every patient receives timely, quality treatment.

The ED Tech supports physicians, nurses, and other care team members by delivering hands-on clinical and logistical support to patients in the Emergency Department. This includes assisting with procedures, collecting specimens, transporting patients, and maintaining the readiness of the ED environment.

Responsibilities:

  • Obtain vital signs, perform EKGs, assist with splints, wound care, and orthopedic procedures
  • Assist with patient transport, mobility, and hygiene
  • Collect lab specimens and conduct point-of-care testing
  • Maintain supplies and clean patient care areas
  • Assist with patient monitoring and comfort measures
  • Document care activities in the electronic medical record

Qualifications:

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Current BLS certification (AHA)
  • EMT or CNA certification required
  • 1 year of experience in acute care is preferred
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to work effectively in high-pressure situations
