These roles are common in industries like engineering, construction, manufacturing, and forensics. Responsibilities often include operating FARO devices to capture precise measurements, creating 3D models, and analyzing data for quality control or design purposes. Proficiency in CAD software and technical problem-solving skills are usually required.

What are the typical responsibilities of a Faro operator in a manufacturing environment?

As a Faro operator in a manufacturing setting, your main duties involve conducting 3D scans of parts or assemblies using FARO technology, interpreting the resulting data, and comparing it against design specifications. You'll regularly collaborate with engineers, quality control, and production teams to identify discrepancies, ensure adherence to tolerances, and support continuous improvement initiatives. Day-to-day tasks may include equipment calibration, report generation, and troubleshooting scanning issues. This role offers a dynamic work environment where attention to detail and technical problem-solving are highly valued and can pave the way to advanced roles in metrology or quality assurance.

Full-Time | 1st Shift
Monday–Friday, 6:00 AM–2:30 PM
$35.00–$43.00 per hour, depending on experience

Position Summary

ABC Sheet Metal / Steeldyne Industries is seeking an experienced, hands-on Aerospace Quality Inspector to inspect precision sheet metal, machined, welded, and fabricated aerospace components.

This is a working, shop-floor inspection position—not a QC Supervisor or office-only quality role. You will personally perform dimensional inspections, portable CMM arm inspections, first article inspections, and final inspections while maintaining accurate AS9100 and AS9102 documentation.

Qualified candidates must have at least five years of hands-on quality inspection experience in an AS9100 or AS9100D aerospace manufacturing environment, including experience inspecting both sheet metal and machined components.

What You Will Do

  • Perform receiving, in-process, first article, layout, and final inspections
  • Inspect precision sheet metal, machined, formed, welded, fabricated, and assembled aerospace components
  • Operate FARO Arm, ROMER Arm, Hexagon Arm, or similar portable CMM equipment
  • Perform dimensional layouts, CAD-to-part comparisons, tooling checks, fixture checks, and inspection reporting
  • Complete and review AS9102 First Article Inspection Reports, including Forms 1, 2, and 3
  • Create, review, and verify ballooned drawings and characteristic accountability reports
  • Read and interpret engineering drawings, GD&T, customer specifications, purchase orders, and quality requirements
  • Use calipers, micrometers, height gages, bore gages, thread gages, indicators, pin gages, and surface plate equipment
  • Document inspection results and maintain accurate inspection, traceability, and FAIR records
  • Prioritize inspection work to support production schedules and first article requirements
  • Work directly with machining, sheet metal, welding, engineering, production, and quality personnel to resolve inspection issues
  • Identify and document nonconforming material
  • Assist with NCRs, MRB activity, root-cause investigations, and corrective actions as needed
  • Support supplier source inspections and internal or customer audits as needed
  • Follow AS9100D procedures and applicable customer quality requirements

Required Qualifications

  • At least five years of hands-on quality inspection experience in an AS9100 or AS9100D aerospace manufacturing environment
  • Experience inspecting both precision sheet metal and machined components
  • Hands-on experience operating a FARO Arm, ROMER Arm, Hexagon Arm, or similar portable CMM system
  • Strong blueprint reading and GD&T knowledge
  • Experience performing dimensional and visual inspections of tight-tolerance aerospace components
  • Experience completing or reviewing AS9102 First Article Inspection Reports, including Forms 1, 2, and 3
  • Experience creating, reviewing, or verifying ballooned drawings and characteristic accountability reports
  • Experience performing receiving, in-process, first article, layout, and final inspections
  • Proficiency with standard dimensional inspection tools and surface plate inspection methods
  • Ability to accurately document inspection results and maintain product traceability
  • Ability to work independently and personally perform inspections on the production floor

Preferred Qualifications

  • Verisurf software experience
  • Portable CMM programming or inspection-routine development experience
  • Experience inspecting aerospace weldments, fabricated assemblies, tooling, and fixtures
  • Supplier source inspection experience
  • Experience with NCRs, MRB, CAPA, root cause, and corrective actions
  • AS9100 internal audit experience

Compensation and Benefits

  • $35.00–$43.00 per hour, depending on experience
  • Medical insurance
  • Dental insurance
  • Vision insurance
  • 401(k) plan
  • Paid vacation
  • Paid holidays

Benefits are subject to applicable eligibility requirements and plan terms.
