Job description

Job Summary:
The Class A CDL Driver is responsible for safely transporting various essential items to and from Hickmans Egg Ranch locations. This includes delivering feed, packaging, eggs, and other materials, ensuring products reach their destination on time and in optimal condition. This role involves operating different types of vehicles and equipment, following all transportation regulations, and representing Hickmans on the road. The ideal candidate is a reliable, detail-oriented driver committed to upholding safety and quality standards.
Responsibilities and Duties:
  • Safely operate Class A vehicles, including tractor-trailers, tankers, and other heavy equipment, following all federal and state transportation regulations.
  • Transport feed, eggs, manure, packaging materials, and other essential items to and from Hickmans locations and client destinations.
  • Conduct thorough pre-trip and post-trip inspections to ensure vehicle safety and report any maintenance needs to the supervisor.
  • Maintain accurate logs and records of travel times, delivery times, mileage, and fuel consumption in compliance with DOT regulations.
  • Follow designated routes and schedules, ensuring on-time delivery and minimizing delays.
  • Load and unload cargo safely, securing materials and performing quality checks to confirm product integrity.
  • Communicate effectively with dispatchers, supervisors, and clients to coordinate deliveries and resolve any issues that arise.
  • Maintain a clean, organized vehicle and comply with all company safety standards, including personal protective equipment (PPE) usage.
  • Represent Hickmans Family Farms professionally on the road, upholding company values and ensuring a positive image.
  • Assist in training new drivers as needed, sharing insights on company procedures and safety protocols.

Requirements and Skills:
  • Valid Class A Commercial Driver's License (CDL) with a clean driving record.
  • DOT Medical Card and ability to pass required physical and drug screenings.
  • Minimum of 2 years of experience as a Class A CDL driver preferred.
  • Strong knowledge of DOT regulations and ability to follow federal and state transportation laws.
  • Excellent communication skills in English for coordinating with team members and representing the company professionally.
  • Physical ability to lift up to 50 pounds, handle cargo safely, and perform loading/unloading tasks as needed.
  • Attention to detail for completing records accurately and conducting thorough vehicle inspections.
  • Reliable, self-motivated attitude with a strong commitment to safety and punctuality.
Physical Requirements:
  • Ability to sit for extended periods while driving.
  • Frequent bending, stooping, and reaching to load/unload cargo.
  • Comfortable working in various weather conditions and temperatures.
  • Occasional lifting of materials up to 50 pounds.
