Job description

The Seasonal Farm Laborer will support our Farm Innovations team with a wide range of farm, landscaping, and facility maintenance activities at our farm in Allentown, PA. The Phoebe Organic Farm, a production program within the Founders Farm, grows vegetables, fruits, herbs, and flowers for the retirement community at Phoebe Ministries. The Founders Farm is the original homestead of JI Rodale and is maintained as a historic site. Our seasonal workers are critical in the care of our property and ensure that our site is maintained to the highest standards.
Applicants should be driven, hardworking, and committed to organic agriculture practices. All candidates must be prepared to work in a professional farming environment, complete tasks in a timely manner, and work in all weather conditions. This position will assist in a wide range of farm, landscaping, and distribution activities, including but not limited to greenhouse work, field preparation, planting, irrigation, plant care, harvesting, washing and packing produce, maintaining activity logs, hosting activities and events for residents of Phoebe Ministries, and general cleaning and maintenance duties. Applicants are encouraged to have prior agricultural and/or holistic health experience, although not required. Seasonal Workers report directly to the Farm Manager and Farm Technicians. This is a seasonal position, June - November 2026.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities:
  • Conduct field and greenhouse work (planting, harvesting, weeding, etc.)
  • Wash and process vegetables in the packhouse for delivery
  • Pest management
  • Assist with installing irrigation
  • On-going landscaping: mowing, weeding, string trimming, planting, pruning, dead-heading, etc.
  • Assist with facility maintenance such as painting, cleaning, washing, minor repairs, etc.
  • Assist with establishing and maintaining ornamental and herb beds
  • Assist with events/activities setup and cleanup
  • Maintain, organize, and clean equipment, and storage areas
  • Operation of landscaping equipment
  • Other duties and tasks as assigned
Qualifications & Experience:
  • Ability to operate landscaping equipment (mowers, string trimmers, pruners, etc.); training will be provided when necessary
  • Ability to work independently, multi-task and be a team player
  • Willingness to work outside in all weather conditions
  • Strong organizational skills and attentive to detail
  • Must be prompt, responsible and focused
  • Must be comfortable receiving directions from senior farm operation staff
  • Must be able to lift 50 pounds
  • Previous farming or landscaping experience is preferred but not required
Schedule:
  • This is a seasonal position, June - November 2026.
  • Flexible to accommodate 16-24 hours per week
  • Monday - Friday with rotating weekend shifts as needed
  • Weekend chores amounting to 1-2 hours are required on a rotating basis as needed and will be divided equally among crew members. Additional weekend work may be assigned by the Farm Manager
Compensation:
  • $16.00 per hour
