Farm Worker- Roles and Responsibilities

Culture and People

  • Demonstrate strong commitment to safety by identifying and eliminating risks and practicing good judgment
  • Lead in creating a culture of Trust, Respect, Responsibility, and Accountability
  • Oversee the well-being of team members
  • ENHANCE efforts and abilities of ALL team members
  • Create and progress in an Individual Development Plan
  • Practice effective communication and collaboration with all ranch, farm, maintenance, and environmental team members

 

Farm and Livestock Production

  • Assist Farm Supervisor in the development and organization of production plans and budgets
  • Assist in the implementation of production plans, including irrigation, and harvest
  • Continuously seek cost saving opportunities for effective and efficient operations
  • Actively be responsible for the maintenance and care of ranch equipment and infrastructure 
  • Collaborate with Farm Lessees and Mine personnel to manage dewatering efforts
  • Farm production standards
    • 4.75 tons/acre on established alfalfa
    • 2.5 tons/acre on new alfalfa
    • 2 tons/acre on grass fields plus 30 ADA grazing opportunity
    • 4 tons/acre on Sorghum-Sudan or ~240 Animal Days per Acre (ADA)
    • 5 tons/acre on Corn or ~300 ADA
  • Assist in the feeding of confined livestock on Feed Bunks at Horseshoe and Mack Farm
    • Assure stock water quality and availability
    • Manage feed quality and availability for livestock
    • Maintenance of fence and other livestock infrastructure
    • Open communication with livestock crew to assure best practices in animal husbandry (vaccination and doctoring protocols)
  • Turn in weekly hay feeding report 
  • Strive to use processed feed strategically and purposefully
  • Ask for help and/or delegate when necessary
  • Assist with livestock operations as needed
  • Assist in the movement and shipping of hay

 

Natural Resources

  • Prioritize Stewardship and Conservation of natural resources, including water
  • Efficiently irrigate fields and rangeland as water rights and availability allow
  • Observe and report opportunities for vegetative treatments when found
    • Spray weeds as assigned
