Requirements:
  • Must be self-motivated
  • Able to communicate clearly with other employees, students and the general public
  • Interested in general farm practices and/or livestock management, along with animal welfare and safe handling procedures
  • Must be able to work as a team with other staff and students
  • Must be able to lift 50 lbs.

Duties & Responsibilities: (This is not a comprehensive list of all tasks or chores.)
  • Expected to complete assigned shifts, whether feeding, or milking, along with other assigned chores.
  • Responsible for the daily health and well being of the dairy, beef or swine herd-including calving, farrowing, and follow up health checks.

-Swine Center employees also assist with heat checks, artificial insemination and confirmation.
  • Complete daily chores, such as feeding, manure disposal, bedding and cleaning.
  • Assist in the maintenance and upkeep of all facilities and equipment associated with each livestock enterprise and general farm areas.
  • Must communicate clearly with all farm staff to ensure that work/chores are completed daily and remain consistent.
  • Ensure proper and accurate records are kept in order to maintain and improve the overall production and efficiency of each enterprise.
  • Assist, as needed and appropriate, with labs held in a specific enterprise.
  • Assist, when requested, with the development and implementation of research projects.
  • Complete other duties, possibly in other areas of the farm, as assigned.
