Job Title: KIOSK DRIVER, Facilities & Farm Assistant
Department: Operations

ABOUT BUILDING BRIDGES ACROSS THE RIVER: Building Bridges Across the River (Building Bridges) provides residents East of the Anacostia River access to the best-in-class facilities, programs and partnerships in arts and culture, economic opportunity, education, recreation, health and well-being. Building Bridges envisions a future in which the residents East of the Anacostia River experience vital, thriving communities characterized by social, cultural, economic, and racial equity. In order to combat past and current structural inequities, Building Bridges develops and manages facilities and programs in Wards 7 & 8, including the Town Hall Education Arts Recreation Campus (THEARC), THEARC Farm, THEARC Theater, 11th Street Bridge Park, and Skyland Workforce Center.
ABOUT THE POSITION: Building Bridges is seeking someone who will work with several of our departments: 11th Street Bridge Park - As an operations driver, they will be responsible for safely transporting our mobile kiosk (a cargo van with a trailer) to designated locations in Washington DC within a specific timeframe over the course of two business days (Saturdays and Sundays). The driver will adhere to traffic laws, perform pre-trip vehicle inspections, follow assigned routes, and maintain clear communication with 11th Street Bridge Park and business owner or other team members. At the market, they will assist the business owner with set up and sales as requested. THEARC Farm - As Farm Assistant, they will be assisting the Deputy Farm Director with weeding, planting and other maintenance tasks on Wednesdays and Thursdays. On Fridays, they will assist with harvest and directing volunteers, and with set up, operations and break down of our free farmers market called Food and Farm Fridays. Facilities - As Facilities Technician, they will provide general support as a member of the facilities team.
JANUARY - MARCH RESPONSIBILITIES AND FUNCTIONS
Maintenance & Repairs
Perform minor maintenance, such as painting, patching walls, changing light bulbs, replacing ceiling tiles, and basic plumbing or carpentry tasks. Conduct regular walkthroughs and inspections of the facility to identify maintenance needs or safety hazards. Facility Setup & Logistics
Set up and take down equipment, chairs, and tables for meetings, conferences, or events.
Cleaning & Groundskeeping
Maintain cleanliness in common areas, restrooms, and entryways. Clearing trash, , or clearing exterior walkways.
Snow Removal
โ€ข Clear snow and ice from all building entrances, walkways, parking areas, and emergency exits; apply ice melt, sand, or
salt to prevent hazardous conditions.
โ€ข Operate snow removal equipment (snow blowers, plows, hand tools) and monitor weather forecasts to prepare materials
in advance of winter weather events.
Parking Lot Attendant
โ€ข Monitor and manage parking lot access during events and daily operations, directing visitors and staff to appropriate
areas while enforcing parking policies courteously.
APRIL - DECEMBER RESPONSIBILITIES AND FUNCTIONS
Small Business Kiosk
Vehicle Operation:
โ€ข Safely drive company vehicle to deliver goods or transport personnel to designated locations according to established
routes and schedules.
โ€ข Perform routine vehicle checks before each shift to ensure proper functionality, including fluid levels, tire pressure, lights,
and overall safety.
โ€ข Report any vehicle maintenance issues to the appropriate personnel.
โ€ข Adhere to all traffic laws, company safety policies, and DOT regulations.
Loading and Unloading / Business Assistance:
โ€ข Assist small businesses with loading and unloading products, ensuring proper securing of items within the vehicle as
needed.
โ€ข Interact with participating small businesses in a professional manner, addressing any concerns related to deliveries and
assisting as requested.
Documentation & Communication:
โ€ข Complete necessary paperwork including delivery receipts, logs, and incident reports.
โ€ข Maintain clear communication with dispatch regarding delivery status, delays, and any issues encountered.
THEARC Farm
Tasks in the THEARC Farm:
โ€ข Maintain growing beds, including watering, weeding, planting, harvesting and trellising of farm vegetables, fruits, herbsand flowers.
โ€ข During harvest, follow food safety protocols for cleaning produce and tools, and preventing contamination.
โ€ข Maintain clean and organized tool shed.
During Food and Farm Fridays:
โ€ข Create a welcoming and respectful environment with all volunteers, visitors and participants in our programming.
โ€ข Keep tables full of produce and walkways clear. Make sure products are well labeled, recipes are available, and
volunteers know how much to distribute and refills are within their reach.
โ€ข Maintain a quick but courteous pace of work for set up and break down.
Documentation & Communication:
โ€ข Weigh and record all harvested products prior to washing and storage.
โ€ข Give ample notice to the Deputy Farm Director of any requests for time off and prompt notice of illness.

QUALIFICATIONS & REQUIREMENTS
  • High school diploma or equivalent required; additional education or certifications in agriculture, logistics, or related fields preferred.
  • Valid driver's license with a clean driving record; experience operating delivery vehicles preferred.
  • Experience or strong interest in farming, gardening, or agricultural work.
  • Ability to perform manual labor tasks including lifting, bending, and working outdoors in various weather conditions.
  • Good organizational skills and ability to maintain accurate records.
  • Strong communication skills and ability to work well within a team.
  • Reliable, punctual, and able to work independently with minimal supervision.
