Job description


JOB SUMMARY
The Foundry Grinding Technician is responsible for cleaning, grinding, and finishing metal castings to meet quality standards and customer specifications. This role supports production by ensuring castings are properly prepared for shipment and may assist in other foundry operations as needed.
PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Operate hand-held and stationary tools including grinders, chippers, saws, and blasting equipment to remove excess material from castings
  • Grind, smooth, and finish castings to meet quality and dimensional standards
  • Inspect castings for defects and report issues to supervisors or leads
  • Perform routine maintenance and daily safety checks on tools and equipment
  • Safely move materials using hoists, cranes, forklifts, or other equipment
  • Support additional foundry operations as needed, including:
    • Core making (forming internal casting structures)
    • Mold making and closing (forming external casting shapes)
    • Melting (preparing molten metal from raw materials)
    • Pouring (filling molds with molten metal)
    • Shakeout (removing sand and cores from castings)
  • Maintain a clean and safe work environment
  • Comply with all NOV Company and HSE policies and procedures.
  • Perform other work-related tasks as assigned.

FACILITY/GROUP SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITIES (OPTIONAL)
  • Support casting operations across various foundry departments.
  • Assist with sand reclamation, pattern storage, and casting touch-ups as needed.
  • Actively contribute to safe and efficient daily operations.

EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE QUALIFICATIONS
  • High school diploma or GED required
  • Experience operating grinding or cutting equipment in a manufacturing or metalworking environment preferred
  • Experience operating forklifts, overhead cranes, or similar equipment preferred

JOB REQUIREMENTS
  • Ability to pass a drug screen & background check.
  • Must have corrected vision to 20/20.
  • Willingness to work in environments with extreme temperatures, noise, dust, fumes, and moving equipment.
  • Must possess general knowledge of industrial applications in a manufacturing setting.
  • Must possess general knowledge of safety rules and regulations.
  • Strong attention to detail and commitment to producing quality work.
  • Ability to apply commonsense understanding to carry out written or oral instructions.
  • Required to wear PPE including hard hat, gloves, face mask, and steel-toed boots.
  • Ability to deal with problems involving a few concrete variables in standardized situations.
  • Able to work well in a team environment as well as self-directed when working independently.
  • Willingness to comply with all safety regulations and procedures.
  • Ability to adapt and be cross-trained to learn all job duties.
  • Ability to multitask in fast paced environment.
  • Factory environment with large range in temperature changes.
  • Must be able to lift up to 50 lbs. and perform physically demanding tasks including walking, standing, bending, stooping, and reaching for extended periods of time.
