Summer Think Tank Lab Leader
Position Description
The College of Science and Mathematics (BCOSM)'s Think Tank is located in Room 151 of the Dana Mohler-Faria Center for Science and Mathematics (DMF). Some of the tools offered in the laboratory include 3D scanners, soldering stations, laser cutters, saws, vacuum chambers, a computer numerical controlled machine and a drill press.
The Think Tank Lab Leader will assist in overseeing the BSU Think Tank as well as Think Tank Lab Techs.
Think Tank Lab Techs will complete an intensive learning period on how to use and operate Maker Space technologies including 3D printers, microcontrollers, robots, small electronics, and prototyping machines. After extensive training, the duties of Lab Techs will include:
  • mentoring and tutoring other students
  • staffing and organizing a Maker Space site
  • co-leading workshops and tutorials
  • constructing demonstrations

Preferred Qualifications
Required:
  • Applicants must be current BSU undergraduate students enrolled in a minimum of 6 credits for the Fall 2026 semester.
  • Previous experience as a Think Tank Lab Tech for a minimum of one semester.
  • Ability to commit to working in the Think Tank for at least 10 hours a week.

Preferred:
  • Personable, friendly, able to work with and tutor others
  • Passion for tinkering and building things
  • Able to work and learn independently
  • Experience using CNCs, Milling Machines, Lathes, 3d printers, Laser cutters
  • Familiarity with CAD, CAM, Fusion, 3d printing software
  • Familiarity with computer programming
  • Knowledge of electronics or Makerspace technology is not required, but a definite plus

Physical Demands
Able to occasionally move equipment weighing up to 20 pounds.
