Job description

Job Title: Site Safety Professional (Construction)

Location: Tonawanda, NY – GM Facility Construction Site

Employment Type: 1099 (OT pay after 40hrs)

Reports To: Corporate Safety Director

About the Role

We are seeking a motivated Site Safety Professional to join our team at an active construction site within a GM facility. This is an excellent opportunity for someone looking to build or advance their career in construction safety. While prior experience is preferred, we are open to candidates with strong foundational knowledge, a commitment to safety, and a willingness to learn on the job. You will play a key role in maintaining a safe work environment for all personnel on this industrial construction project.

Key Responsibilities

  • Conduct daily safety inspections, audits, and job hazard analyses on the construction site.
  • Monitor compliance with OSHA standards, company safety policies, and GM facility requirements.
  • Lead or support safety orientations, toolbox talks, and training sessions for site personnel.
  • Investigate incidents/near-misses, prepare reports, and help implement corrective actions.
  • Assist with permit-required activities including confined space entry, lockout/tagout, hot work, and excavation.
  • Identify and help mitigate hazards related to fall protection, concrete work, excavation, heavy equipment, and industrial environments.
  • Participate in safety meetings and coordinate with site supervision and subcontractors.
  • Maintain safety documentation, records, and compliance logs.
  • Promote a strong safety culture and “stop work” authority when unsafe conditions are observed.

Required Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent (Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in Occupational Safety, Construction Management, or related field is a plus).
  • OSHA 500 or 510 in Construction
  • Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation.
  • Ability to work outdoors in varying weather conditions and climb ladders/scaffolding as needed.
  • Strong communication skills and ability to work effectively with craft workers, supervisors, and management.

Preferred Qualifications & Nice-to-Haves

  • Experience in industrial construction, especially within manufacturing or automotive facilities (GM or similar).
  • Hands-on experience with excavation, concrete work, confined spaces, and fall protection.
  • Additional OSHA certifications (highly valued):
    • OSHA #500 – Trainer Course in Occupational Safety and Health Standards for the Construction Industry
    • OSHA #7500 – Introduction to Safety and Health Management
    • OSHA #7505 – Introduction to Incident (Accident) Investigation
    • OSHA #7115 – Lockout/Tagout
    • OSHA #7300 – Understanding OSHA’s Permit-Required Confined Space Standard
    • OSHA #7405 – Fall Hazards for the Construction Industry
    • OSHA #3015 – Excavation, Trenching and Soil Mechanics
    • OSHA 30 Hour - Construction
  • 5 years’ construction experience preferred
  • First Aid/CPR certification.
  • Knowledge of General Motors or large industrial client safety protocols.
