"Solar Installation Technician" Role Overview:
As a Solar Installation Technician, your responsibilities are to assemble, install or maintain solar photovoltaic (PV) systems on roofs or other structures in compliance with site assessment and schematics. May include measuring, cutting, assembling, and bolting structural framing and solar modules. In this role, you will be part of a crew that is responsible for installing solar systems on residential homes.
Job Responsibilities:
  • Work with a team to install the racking system and solar panels on residential roofs
  • Structurally mount racking and electrical equipment and effectively seal penetrations
  • Perform routine photovoltaic (PV) system maintenance on modules, arrays, batteries, power conditioning equipment, safety systems, structural
  • systems, weather sealing, or balance of systems equipment
  • Ensure proper job documentation is completed once the job installation concludes
  • Interact with customers, answer and direct questions as needed
  • Read and review blueprints and plan documents
  • Install racking systems and modules, run conduit and wiring on roofs
  • Apply weather seal, such as pipe flashings and sealants, to roof penetrations and structural devices
  • Configure electrical wiring of the solar system (AC and DC) per plans and local codes.
  • Test operation or functionality of completed work
  • Structurally mount racking and electrical equipment and effectively seal penetrations
  • Demonstrate knowledge of OSHA standards related to photovoltaic installations and enforce safety practices and standards
  • Certified OSHA/OSHA10/30 preferred
  • Assisting with other duties as assigned by Crew Lead and/or Regional Operations Manager

Required Qualifications:
Education Requirements:
    • Must be at least 18 years of age.
    • High school diploma or equivalent, or Technical/trade school training in solar or electrical systems is preferred.

Required Skills:
    • 1 year of residential solar experience
    • Ability to safely handle power tools and materials such as: ladders, inverters, solar panels, panel boards, batteries, and other similar electrical equipment, lumber, roofing materials, etc.
    • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills
    • Ability to perform all installation duties of the Installer and Lead Installer
    • Electrical/PV Installation Knowledge: Working knowledge of current NEC codes. Ability to interpret single-line drawings and PV systems from roof to meter.
    • Demonstrates knowledge of electrical principles as it pertains to solar interconnection/tie-in and code and how PV systems operate.
    • Understands interconnection activities. Understands basic construction principles
    • Safety: Adheres to company safety policies and procedures including ability to identify and report safety hazards, and the ability to encourage others to work safely
    • Ability to understand or have experience in Electrical Panels including Sub Panels (MBD derate, conduit bending, relocating circuits, etc.)
    • Adheres to company safety policies and procedures including ability to identify and report safety hazards, and the ability to encourage others to work safely
    • Layout and assembly of solar modules / array and mounting hardware
    • Must be able to successfully pass pre-employment screening requirements (A valid Driver's License and clean MVR are required to drive company vehicles.)

Physical Requirements:
    • Ability to work within the safe range of equipment such as ladders, fall protection harnesses and other personal protective equipment
    • Ability to withstand heights, be on roofs, and climb ladders (Daily)
    • Ability to lift 50-75+ lbs. routinely (Daily)
    • Ability to work in 0-100+ degree weather, as well as in wet and dry conditions
    • Ability to move around for prolonged periods. standing, kneeling, bending, Squat and climbing ladders (Daily)
