This is an opportunity to take on a meaningful leadership role in a practical, direct-service organization that helps meet immediate needs in the Boston community. The Volunteer Director will play an important role in strengthening an organization that depends on compassion, reliability, teamwork, and respect for the dignity of every person served.

The Role

As Volunteer Community Partnerships Director, you will lead and grow our network of partner organizations across Greater Boston. This is a senior, externally facing role for someone who already knows the region's faith-based, nonprofit, and advocacy landscape and can begin building partnerships from the start. You will work closely with the Executive Director and serve as one of the organization's primary ambassadors to the communities we serve.

This role is well suited to an experienced professional—perhaps someone retired, between roles, or looking to contribute senior-level skills to a cause they care about—who already has relationships within the Greater Boston faith and nonprofit communities.

Time Commitment

Approximately 4–6 hours per week, including occasional evening or weekend events across Greater Boston. The role is hybrid: in-person meetings and events with partner organizations, with remaining work completed remotely.

Key Responsibilities

• Partnership Development: Independently identify, approach, and establish partnerships with faith-based organizations, community groups, nonprofits, and advocacy organizations across Greater Boston that share our commitment to social justice and service to marginalized communities.
• Strategic Collaboration: Lead joint initiatives, programs, and events with partner organizations. Identify shared goals, negotiate mutual benefits, and drive collaborative projects to meaningful outcomes.
• Relationship Management: Serve as a primary point of contact for partner organizations, sustaining long-term engagement through ongoing communication, regular check-ins, and support for co-sponsored activities.
• Outreach and Engagement: Represent A Faith That Does Justice at community events, faith gatherings, and conferences throughout the Boston area, raising awareness of our mission and inviting organizational participation.
• Advocacy and Awareness: Partner with program leaders to develop educational resources and campaigns that highlight unjust societal structures and encourage faith-driven community action.
• Reporting and Assessment: Track partnership activity, monitor outcomes, and share results and recommendations with the Executive Director.

The Ideal Volunteer Brings

• Significant professional experience in community outreach, partnership development, or a closely related field, ideally including work in a faith-based or social justice setting.
• Current relationships within the Greater Boston nonprofit, faith, and/or advocacy communities, and working familiarity with the region's organizational landscape.
• The ability to attend regular in-person meetings and events throughout Greater Boston (residence in or near the area is essential).
• A track record of independently developing and managing partnerships from initial outreach through sustained collaboration.

Also Helpful

• A background in Social Work, Theology, Community Development, or a related field.
• Experience representing an organization publicly at events, conferences, or in the press.

Skills and Competencies

• Strong understanding of interfaith principles and sensitivity to diverse religious backgrounds.
• Demonstrated commitment to social justice and a deep understanding of the challenges facing marginalized communities.
• Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
• Strong organizational skills and the ability to manage multiple projects independently with minimal oversight.
