Job description

The salary for these positions is: $17.13 - $20.00 per hour.

This posting will remain open until all positions have been filled. Thurston County's Community Planning & Economic Development Department reserves the right to close this recruitment at any time. Interviews will be ongoing as applications are received. Fair staff will contact applicants for interviews.

Temporary fair workers perform a multitude of tasks to ensure all fair goers have a fun time at a clean and safe event. Please find one of the operations that aligns with your experience and interest. Dates of employment are variable depending on the position. The Administrative and Facilities Operations staff will begin as close to June 15 as possible and end the second week of August. The Service Operations opportunities will begin the last week of July and conclude on the final day of Fair.ย The Thurston County Fair runs Thursday July 30, 2026 - Sunday August 2, 2026.ย 
We have multiple openings and look forward to hearing from you!
Service Operations:ย Custodial tasks including, but not limited to, sweeping, table washing, and trash pick-up. ย Customer Service tasks including, but not limited to, welcoming the public, collecting tickets, and monitoring parking. Service Operations employment will begin the last week of July and end the final day of the fair. ย 
Administrative Operations:ย Tasks to include, but not limited to, data entry, operating cash register, running computer reports, welcoming the public, answering phones, organizing files, and other clerical items as needed. Administrative Operations employment will being mid- June and ends the second week of August.ย 
Facilities Operations:ย Tasks to include, but not limited to, repairing water leaks, landscaping, basic equipment repair, tables, chairs and tent set-ups, moving manure, and sanitizing facilities and equipment. ย Experience with the use of basic hand and power tools (hammers, impact drills, etc), basic grounds equipment (lawn mower, weed eater, blower, etc), and some knowledge of electricity (i.e. the difference between 120/240 power) are required for this work.ย Facilities Operations employment begins mid-June and ends the second week of August.ย 

WORKING CONDITIONS

  • Working Environment - Work will be performed both indoors and outdoors. Some positions will require significant physical effort and exposure to heat and other weather elements.ย 
  • Schedule - ย In preparation for the fair work hours will be Monday - Friday 8:00 AM - 5:00 PM or similar. During the week before and of the fair, work hours will vary and may be anytime from 6:00 AM - 11:00 PM Monday-Sunday.ย 
  • Customer Interactions - Daily interactions via phone, and in-person with Thurston County Staff, and members of the public.ย
