Accutrol is Hiring: Instrumentation & Valve Automation Applications Engineer

Location: Sulphur, LA  or    Baton Rouge, LA  Office (Onsite / Some Travel)
Job Type: Full-Time
Experience Level: Mid-Level (3–5 years preferred)

Responsibilities:

  • Design & Sizing Solutions: Analyze customer process data (flow, pressure, aggressive chemicals, high temperatures) to correctly size, select, and specify control valves, automated on/off valves, and instrumentation for chemical plants and refineries. Provide measurement solutions from our vast product offering.
  • Build Winning Proposals: Turn around fast, accurate, and comprehensive technical and commercial quotes for complex plant RFQs, turnarounds, and capital projects.
  • Partner with Sales: Act as the technical backbone for our outside sales team, reviewing client P&IDs and piping specs to deliver engineered solutions that best fit our customers needs.
  • Integrate Systems: Select and configure the right accessories (solenoids, limit switches, smart positioners) to ensure seamless connection to plant DCS/PLC systems.
  • Manage Vendor Relations: Work closely with our manufacturing partners to source specialty components, expedite long-lead items, and maintain a competitive edge.

Job Requirements:

  • The Degree: Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical, Chemical, Electrical, or Instrumentation Engineering (relevant field experience will be considered).
  • The Experience: 3+ years of direct experience working with industrial valves, actuators, or process instrumentation.
  • The Knowledge: Strong grasp of fluid mechanics, pressure drop calculations, and actuator torque curves. You must be highly proficient at reading refinery blueprints and P&IDs.
  • Chemical/Refining Familiarity: Deep understanding of the unique demands, severe service environments, and standards of Gulf Coast chemical processing and refining.
  • Digital Communication: Understanding of communication protocols (HART, Modbus, Profibus) and digital positioner configuration.
  • The Sizing Skill: Hands-on experience using industry-standard valve and actuator sizing software.   Differintal Flow Elements, Ultrasonic, Coriolis, EMF, Thermal Dispersion Flow meters.   Regulator Sizing,  Thermowell WFA Calculations and more.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Existing relationships or familiarity with local chemical and refining plant standards in the Baton Rouge or Lake Charles/Sulphur corridors.
  • Familiarity with industry standards like ASME, API, ANSI, and ISA.
  • Experience with 3D CAD modeling (AutoCAD, SolidWorks)
