Job description

Position Title: Managing Director
Location: North America (travel-based)
Employment Type: Full-Time Salary + Performance Bonus
About Us
At FTE Factory Advisors, we partner with industrial and manufacturing organizations to drive operational excellence, unlock sustainable growth, and achieve measurable outcomes. We don't just consult-we embed, lead, and deliver.
Our team brings decades of experience into complex factory and operational settings across North America. From the shop floor to the boardroom, we help clients boost revenue, reduce costs, and build cultures of continuous improvement-through strategies rooted in people, process, and performance.
If you're a strategic thinker who thrives on solving tough problems in dynamic environments-and you're eager to break free from virtual fatigue to engage directly with clients-FTE offers a unique opportunity to make your mark.
The Opportunity
We are seeking a seasoned Managing Director to lead transformation efforts at the intersection of strategy and execution. This role is ideal for a consulting leader with a strong operational background and a passion for working hands-on with clients.
You'll shape and deliver high-impact engagements across the industrial sector while playing a pivotal role in growing FTE's footprint. From business development and case leadership to capability building and internal growth strategy, you'll have end-to-end ownership and influence.
This full-time role requires up to 75% travel and offers a pay-for-performance bonus structure aligned with individual and firm-wide success.
What You'll Do
Business Development
  • Serve as both strategist and operator-leveraging your network to originate deals while also guiding the full lifecycle of client relationships
  • Generate and qualify leads, develop proposals, craft SOWs, and negotiate contracts with senior decision-makers
  • Own revenue generation targets and manage profitability across your book of business
  • Design and execute go-to-market strategies to penetrate new accounts and expand existing relationships
  • Build credibility through thought leadership, networking, and market intelligence
  • Stay ahead of industry trends and tailor commercial strategies accordingly

Case Management
  • Lead multi-disciplinary teams across engagements, ensuring on-time, on-budget, high-quality delivery
  • Serve as executive sponsor and day-to-day lead on client work-scoping, staffing, and managing project execution
  • Facilitate strategic working sessions with C-suite and operational leaders to define objectives, align stakeholders, and chart transformation paths
  • Translate complex operational challenges into actionable workstreams and measurable results
  • Build long-term client partnerships by consistently delivering value and fostering trust

Firm Building
  • Contribute to FTE's growth by developing internal talent, intellectual capital, and delivery methodologies
  • Build re-usable tools, frameworks, and playbooks that elevate our client delivery and enable scale
  • Lead or participate in firm-level initiatives including strategic planning, recruiting, and team development
  • Support capability development by facilitating internal trainings, workshops, and mentorship programs
  • Help shape the firm's future-offering insight and initiative to strengthen culture and operations

Requirements
  • Proven management consulting or professional services experience required
  • 5+ years of business development experience required, including net new client acquisition and land-and-expand growth
  • 5-10 years of leadership roles in relevant functions: manufacturing operations, industrial/process engineering, quality, supply chain, or factory management
  • Deep knowledge of Lean, continuous improvement, and operational performance levers
  • Ability to engage across organizational levels-from plant floor teams to C-suite stakeholders
  • Strong project leadership and change management capabilities in fast-paced environments
  • A collaborative mindset with the ability to build trust and alignment across diverse teams
  • Excellent communication, facilitation, and presentation skills
  • Bachelor's degree required; MBA preferred

Bonus Points if You Have
  • Experience in Aerospace & Defense or other regulated manufacturing environments
  • An active Security Clearance
  • Demonstrated ability to coach clients and teams through structured problem-solving approaches
  • Proven success in influencing outcomes without formal authority
  • Familiarity with HubSpot or similar CRM tools

Benefits
  • Work with a highly experienced, no-ego team that values execution, integrity, and impact
  • Step into a leadership role with real autonomy and accountability
  • Drive results where they matter most-on the ground, with client leadership
  • Grow your career alongside seasoned experts and a firm on the rise
