Job description

The senior public relations strategist plays a crucial role in crafting compelling human-interest stories and strategic communications, specializing in copywriting and editing for agency communications. The role includes direct collaboration with the president & CEO. on select communications. This position supports public relations, marketing and advertising efforts, including high-impact and time-sensitive communications, all while promoting the mission, vision, and values of Heritage Christian Services.

Pay for this position: $70878 / yr - $76697 / yr

The salary of the finalist selected for this role will be set based on a variety of factors, including but not limited to departmental budgets, qualifications, experience, education, licenses, specialty, and training. The above range represents the organization's good faith and reasonable estimate of the range of possible compensation at the time of posting


  • Identifies and develops human-interest stories that align with the company's mission, vision and values.
  • Partners directly with the president & C.E.O. and senior leadership on select communications.
  • Writes and edits content for agency communications including the annual report, newsletters, brochures, websites, social media, and public relations materials such as media releases, essays and urgent communications. Also writes for direct mail and email campaigns, radio scripts, advertising copy and messaging platforms.
  • Builds and strengthens the agency’s relationships with journalists and media personalities.
  • Organizes public relations events for media coverage, including news conferences, reporter visits, and community activities.
  • Ensures content is accurate and adheres to the agency’s brand and style guidelines, including AP Style.
  • Contributes to and monitors social media.
  • Supports agency-wide marketing and communications work with a focus on high-priority initiatives and leadership-driven communications.
  • Assists with administrative tasks, event support, and other duties as assigned.

60% Writing, editing, interviewing, research and fact-checking

40% Strategic public relations support, executive communications, media relations and other PR/media responsibilities and duties as assigned


  • Required
    • Associates degree in communications or related degree
    • 3 years of experience in PR, journalism or a related field
    • Exemplary skills in research, interviewing, writing/storytelling and editing
    • A valid driver’s license that follows Heritage Christian’s motor vehicle record standards plus reliable transportation to and from work
  • Preferred
    • Bachelor's degree in communications or related degree
