ABOUT DEVON SELF STORAGE:
Devon Self Storage, one of the largest privately owned national self-storage developers and operators, manages over 182+ properties and approximately 180,900 units nationally. Founded in 1988 by Ken Nitzberg, and now a member of The Inland Real Estate Group of Companies, Inc., Devon has established itself as a leader in the self-storage industry having owned, managed, or developed more than 350 self-storage facilities in 32 states and three European countries. Inland and Devon are both headquartered in Oak Brook, Illinois.
POSITION SUMMARY:
The Facility Maintenance Manager is responsible for overseeing all Repair & Maintenance (R&M) activities across Devon Self Storage's facilities, primarily managed through the Service Channel platform. This role ensures timely resolution of work orders, effective vendor management, and adherence to budgetary controls, while maintaining high standards for property condition, safety, and compliance. The position requires a strategic leader with strong technical ability-both in facilities management expertise and proficiency with platforms like Service Channel-as well as vendor negotiation skills and the ability to streamline processes across a multi-site portfolio. Additionally, the Facility Maintenance Manager will serve as a lead coordinator between the company's field operations and construction teams, ensuring alignment on maintenance priorities, project execution, and compliance standards.
CORE RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Oversight of all work orders and R&M activities via Service Channel.
  • Leadership and development of the Facility Management team.
  • Vendor recruitment, selection, and management.
  • Achieve budget discipline and cost efficiency by controlling R&M expenses, aligning will financial targets, and negotiating strong vendor value.
  • Ensure safety, regulatory compliance, and continuous process improvement.
  • Collaborate cross-functionally with Operations, HR, Construction, and Asset Management.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITY:
  • Direct supervision of Facility Project Managers
  • Indirect oversight of vendor partners and contractors.

QUALIFICATIONS:
Education:
  • Bachelor's degree in Facilities Management, Construction Management, Business Administration, or related field preferred; or equivalent work experience.

Experience:
  • Minimum 7 years of experience in facilities management across multi-site operations.
  • Minimum 3 years in a leadership role with direct people management responsibilities.
  • Experience with Service Channel or similar work order management software required.
  • Self-storage, retail, or property management industry experience strongly preferred.

Skills:
  • Strong knowledge of building systems, maintenance protocols, and vendor management.
  • Exceptional organizational and analytical skills, with ability to manage competing priorities.
  • Proven ability to manage budgets and negotiate contracts.
  • Excellent written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite; working knowledge of CMMS systems (Service Channel) required.
