Job description

The City of Cedar Rapids is looking for a Facilities Service Supervisor to lead the day-to-day custodial operations and building and grounds maintenance for City facilities. This is an important leadership role that helps ensure our buildings are clean, safe, well-maintained, and ready to serve employees, residents, and visitors every day. As the Facilities Service Supervisor, you will oversee a team responsible for the care and maintenance of a wide variety of City buildings and facilities.

You'll coordinate custodial services, building maintenance, grounds care, repairs, preventative maintenance, and related facility operations. The position requires someone who can balance day-today priorities with long-term planning while providing directions, support, and accountability to the team. Manages environmental service contracts. Performs related work as required. Essential Duties & Responsibilities Job Duties and Responsibilities Directs and oversees custodial operations and building and grounds maintenance for various City facilities, ensuring all services are delivered safely, efficiently, and in alignment with established quality standards.

Supervises assigned personnel by delegating tasks, providing clear and consistent guidance, promoting adherence to safety protocols, and conducting comprehensive performance evaluations. Administers the planning, scheduling, and coordination of environmental service contracts to ensure vendor performance meets City requirements for service quality, safety, and customer responsiveness. Reviews and verifies the completion of work assignments to ensure compliance with operational standards, safety expectations, and departmental directives; adjusts work instructions and timelines as necessary.

Collaborates with internal departments to assess needs, respond to maintenance service requests, and ensure that facility operations support a high standard of customer service. Oversees updates and maintenance of the City's Lenel identification and door security system to ensure secure, reliable access control across facilities. Manages custodial product inventory and coordinates distribution with various City departments to support continuous, efficient operations.

Develops and prepares procurement specifications for goods and services in accordance with City policies, emphasizing quality, safety, and operational effectiveness. Performs additional related duties as assigned to support safe facility operations, effective personnel management, and high-quality service delivery. Qualifications Required Education and Experience At least two years of relevant college level course work or an Associate's degree from an accredited college or university and Three (3) to five (5) years' experience in maintenance and or custodial services, including lead or supervisory responsibilities or An equivalent combination of education and/or experience Excellent written, verbal and interpersonal communication skills Proficiency with Microsoft Office Ability to work collaboratively with a diverse population Required Licenses or Certifications Valid U.S

Driver's License Ability to pass NCIC background check Desired Qualifications Experience leading, developing, and supervising a diverse custodial, maintenance, and stockroom control team. Experience in cleaning product selection, chemical safety compliance, and advanced floor care techniques, including scrubbing, burnishing, and refinishing. Experience in grounds maintenance operations, including mowing, trimming, debris removal, vegetation management, and performing seasonal tasks.
