What Your Job Will Be Like
We are seeking an motivated Construction Manager who will be accountable for construction work activities being performed by external construction companies. As the project leader, Construction Managers assure project success by managing the safety, schedule, budget, and quality of each project and assure that project requirements are met.
In this role, you can expect a fast-paced environment where you will manage multiple projects on any given day. You will proactively seek out issues and resolve them quickly; develop solutions for complex challenges, assemble teams to assure decisions are comprehensive and complete, reduce operational impacts, and assure accurate project costs and changes from the construction contractors.
On any given day, you may be called on to:
  • Provide construction management services and ensure projects are completed safely, on time, and under budget.
  • Ensure compliance with Sandia Corporation, Facilities Management and Operations Center, and Environment, Safety, and Health (ES&H) requirements to develop and deliver completed construction projects safely and effectively.
  • Oversee all activities performed by construction contractors.
  • Facilitate and participate in regular construction progress meetings.
  • Provide accurate coordination with the construction management support, ES&H teams, system engineers, customers, as well as inspection service contractors to effectively schedule and manage all construction work.
  • Develop a coordinated construction contractor schedule to handle all work as a program aligned to an assigned geographic area or team.
  • Provide guidance and leadership to other Construction Manager's in the Department daily to meet strategic objectives.
  • Support the Project Manager with design reviews, approving project cost and schedule impacts.

Due to the nature of the work, the selected applicant must be able to work onsite.
Salary Range
$87,400 - $168,800
*Salary range is estimated, and actual salary will be determined after consideration of the selected candidate's experience and qualifications, and application of any approved geographic salary differential.
Qualifications We Require
  • Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering, Construction Engineering, Construction Management, or other relevant Engineering Degree, plus two (2) or more years of directly related experience. Or equivalent combination of relevant education and experience.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain an active DOE Q-level security clearance.

Qualifications We Desire
  • Pursuit/completion of an advanced technical degree in construction/project management or related field.
  • Experience with Newforma, Primavera and Microsoft Project.
  • At least one (1) year of experience working within SNL processes and procedures.
  • Certified Construction Manager (CCM) certification and/or certification as a Project Management Professional (PMP).
  • OSHA-10-hour (or higher) training and knowledge of International Building Codes (IBC).
  • Understanding of Facilities processes such as O&M, Projects, and Document Management.
  • Strong organizational, negotiation, time management, and leadership skills, and the ability to interact with all levels of staff and management.
  • Solid understanding of construction requirements such as building code, OSHA requirements, construction techniques, sequencing, scheduling, risk mitigation, and estimating.
  • Ability to lead technical teams to solutions while balancing objectives such as cost, schedule, performance, quality, and safety.
  • Demonstrated analytical skills with the ability to anticipate, identify, and resolve problems with high level of detail.
  • Ability to implement system processes using the latest technical approaches, handle frequent changing priorities, and coordinate multiple activities.

About Our Team
The Facilities Project Execution Team is aligned with the mission to provide direct support for all products and services. We develop, manage, and deliver projects and provide project and construction management for building and infrastructure systems. Within this team are several departments who oversee small (~$50K) to very large (>$30M) projects such as design-bid-build and design-build of new facilities, that are customer and direct funded. We are responsible for the schedule, cost and quality of each project and work closely with our construction partners, line customers, and oversight to assure project success.

Sandia is required by DOE to conduct a pre-employment drug test and background review that includes checks of personal references, credit, law enforcement records, and employment/education verifications.
