Job description

Description The Dougherty County Sheriff's Office/Jail Division is hiring on a continuous basis for a Part-Sheriff's Office Security Officer. The purpose of this position is to observe conduct and behavior of individuals in civil and criminal cases while in a courtroom setting to prevent disturbances and the escape of inmates. Assists jurors during terms of court, searches the courtrooms for weapons and other contraband, and acts directly upon the instructions from the judge in potentially threatening situations.

This class works under general supervision, independently developing work methods and sequences. Essential Tasks Assists and directs witnesses and general public to and from court. Assists court officers in courtroom observing conduct and behavior of individuals and reports any suspicious activity.

Monitors court holding cells and transports inmates to and from court in a safe manner; may escort individual(s) throughout judicial building before, during and after court. Patrols court facilities and grounds of the facility in accordance with applicable Judicial Building Security Plan. Secures closed courtroom; inspects courtrooms before and after proceedings; tests security devices and report findings; and perform other duties concerning security or the court area.

Properly applies restraint devices on inmates. Operates a portable radio, closed-circuit television (CCTV), hand wand metal scanning device and assists with walk thru metal scanning/X-ray devices. Conducts daily patrol of courtrooms and surrounding areas.

Assists and guard jurors in the courtroom during trial terms. Assists with duplicating court documents required to update the Sheriff's records. Assists presiding judges in general with any needs directed by the courts.

Assists with booking documents and court orders that require signatures. Ensures the condition and status of all duress alarms are tested on a monthly basis. Performs related work as assigned.

Minimum Qualification High School Diploma or GED equivalent. One (1) year of experience in security, customer service, clerical or related field or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience. Supplemental Information Physical demands refer to the requirements for physical exertion and coordination of limb and body movement.

Performs sedentary work that involves walking or standing some of the time and involves exerting up to 10 pounds of force on a regular and recurring basis or sustained keyboard operations. Unavoidable Hazards (Work Environment): Unavoidable hazards refer to the job conditions that may lead to injury or health hazards even though precautions have been taken. None Special Certifications And Licenses: Must possess and maintain a valid state driver's license with an acceptable driving history.
