Job description

Walk to Defeat ALS - TACOMA

Sunday, September 13, 2026

Harry Lang Stadium, Lakewood

Join the Walk to Defeat ALS Planning Committee

Help make a difference in the fight against ALS! The Walk to Defeat ALS Planning Committee brings together passionate volunteers to plan and promote one of our community’s most inspiring fundraising events.

This is a great opportunity to use your skills in community outreach, event planning, or fundraising while connecting with others who share a commitment to supporting people living with ALS. Together, we can make every step count toward a world without ALS.

Time Commitment:

Committee members typically volunteer 2–4 hours per month, including a 1 hour monthly planning meeting (virtual) and other outreach or event tasks as the Walk approaches.

Why Join:

You’ll play a key role in bringing the ALS community together, gain valuable experience in nonprofit event planning, and see your efforts come to life on Walk day!

Committee Leadership Roles

Each role can be shared and supported by additional volunteers — so there’s a place for everyone to get involved.

Event Chair

  • Serves as the volunteer leader of the committee.
  • Partners with ALS Association staff to guide meetings and planning.
  • Helps set the tone, motivate others, and act as a visible ambassador.
  • Works across all committee areas to ensure coordination and success.

Sponsorship Lead | Focus: Driving sponsorship prospecting and connections.

  • Identify potential sponsors and help prioritize outreach efforts.
  • Connect the staff lead with local businesses and community partners.
  • Provide insight into the market to help target the right prospects.

Team Development Lead | Focus: Growing participation and celebrating teams.

  • Reengage past teams and encourage their return.
  • Recruit new teams (corporate, school, family, community).
  • Support outreach efforts (social media, flyers, personal asks).
  • Lead recognition efforts to celebrate top fundraisers and teams at the Walk.

Event Day Lead | Focus: Creating an engaging and impactful Walk-day experience.

  • Support site planning, layout, and logistics.
  • Help secure vendors such as food trucks, face painters, and entertainment.
  • Oversee the flow of the day to ensure a fun, mission-driven participant experience.

Volunteer Lead | Focus: Ensuring we have the people-power needed for Walk day.

  • Recruit, schedule, and communicate with day-of volunteers.
  • Coordinate volunteer roles (check-in, water stations, cheering, setup/teardown).
  • Act as main point of contact for volunteers during the event.

Interested in joining the committee? We’d love to hear from you! Sign up today and help us make this year’s Walk to Defeat ALS our most inspiring yet.
