Established in 2018, Florida Asphalt & Concrete (FAC) was formed to meet the immense demand for commercial asphalt paving and concrete solutions across Central Florida. Currently serving Hillsborough, Pinellas, Hernando, Citrus, Pasco, Manatee, Polk, Hardee, Orange, Lee and Sarasota counties providing the infrastructure that makes modern life possible.

Guided by Senior Management, FAC has a team that is equipped to provide efficient budget and timeline solutions for contracts ranging upward of $20 million dollars in size. FAC is a member of the Asphalt Contractors Association of Florida.

Florida Asphalt & Concrete is seeking an experienced Roller Operator to join our dynamic team. The role involves a multi-stage process. Initially, our Roller Operators break down the asphalt mix using a breakdown roller, followed by compression with a rubber tire roller. The final stage involves a finish roller that gives the final finish. Our operators may also be required to operate Steel Drum and Pad Foot Rollers to compact and seal earth fills, sub grades, and flexible base.


Responsibilities:

  • Follow health an safety codes, as well as company policies. 
  • Operate self-propelled steel-wheeled, rubber-tired, vibrator, segmented, or other heavy rolling machines to compact asphalt surfaces to grade specifications.
  • Massage hot mix asphalt into place and compress it to the desired compaction.
  • Seal subgrade and base surfaces and apply a final finish, removing any imperfections.
  • Determine machine speed and direction based on material compressibility under varying temperatures to avoid ridge formation.
  • Adjust rolling patterns based on varying materials and ensure minimal overlap.
  • Communicate with supervisors to determine when target compaction is achieved.
  • Navigate roller around existing obstacles or utilities.
  • Operate hand tamp and portable power roller over areas not accessible to road roller.
  • Understand equipment operations and limitations, perform daily evaluations, and report deficiencies.
  • Ensure a safe work environment in compliance with all safety policies, OSHA regulations, and use appropriate tools and equipment.
  • Identify and resolve problems in a timely manner.
  • Follow all Florida Asphalt and Concrete policies and procedures, complete assignments correctly and on time, and report any issues to crew foreman promptly.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.


Requirements:

  • Preferred 1 year of experience as a roller operator in the civil construction industry.
  • Ability to understand verbal and written instructions.
  • Ability to work well in a group problem-solving situation.
  • Ability to identify and resolve problems in a timely manner. 
  • Must be available for overtime and weekend work as required by the project schedule. 
  • Must have reliable transportation to travel to various job sites as required. 
  • Ability to work in various weather conditions.
  • Knowledge on the machinery and safety regulations. 
  • Must be able to occasionally conduct hard labor work including but not limited to heavy lifting.
