Job description

Our Fortune 1000 Client is seeking an experienced Data Engineer for a full time position.  Salary is $125-$135k.   Work is onsite.  

Local Candidates only. No relocation.  No sponsorship available.

Job Description:

The Data Engineer's role is to plan, design, develop, test, implement, and maintain efficient information systems with a primary focus on building scalable data pipelines, Lakehouse environments, semantic models, and governed datasets to support business intelligence and advanced analytics. This individual will apply proven communication, analytical, and problem-solving skills to help identify, plan, and implement integrations between disparate systems to maximize the benefit of business system investments.  Frequent interaction is required with internal analysts, project leaders, as well as other internal and external stakeholders such as third-party software vendors.
 
Essential Functions and Responsibilities:
  • Microsoft Fabric / Azure
    • Build and maintain Fabric Lakehouses, Data Warehouses, and OneLake storage layers.
    • Develop Fabric Data Pipelines (Data Factory) for ingestion, transformation, orchestration, and automation.
    • Create and optimize Spark notebooks for ETL/ELT workloads.
    • Implement medallion architecture (bronze/silver/gold) within Fabric.
    • Manage and monitor workloads using Fabric capacities, workspaces, and governance features.
  • Data Modeling & BI
    • Build and maintain semantic models for reporting teams.
    • Work closely with reporting developers (Power BI) to ensure performant data models.
    • Optimize large-scale datasets for consumption and self-service analytics.
  • Data Engineering Core Skills
    • Design, build, and maintain scalable and reliable data pipelines.
    • Work with structured/unstructured data, Delta Lake, parquet, and data lake formats.
    • Implement best practices for data quality, lineage, monitoring, and observability.
    • Improve data performance through indexing, partitioning, caching, and optimization.
  • Collaboration
    • Work with business stakeholders to gather requirements.
    • Contribute to data governance and metadata management practices.
    • Ensure the integrity and security of enterprise data on host computers and databases, and during data transfers, in accordance with business needs and industry best practices regarding privacy, security, and compliance.
    • Conduct research on emerging products, services, protocols, and standards in support of systems software procurement and development efforts.
    • Develop, document, and maintain policies, procedures, and associated training plans for system administration and appropriate use.
    • Provide guidance and serve as an escalation to Help Desk.
    • Recommend, schedule, and perform software and related system improvement, upgrades, patches, reconfigurations, and/or purchases.
Minimum Skills and Qualifications: 
  • College degree or equivalent experience in information technology.
  • Related industry certifications are expected. 
  • Strong knowledge of API Integration & Development.  Enterprise application integration and other middleware technologies, such as web services, databases, and application/content integration.
  • Experience with Microsoft Fabric (Data Factory, Lakehouse, Warehouse).
  • Familiarity with Azure Data Services (ADLS, Synapse, ADF, Databricks, etc.).
  • Strong SQL development expertise.
  • Experience with Microsoft SharePoint or similar collaboration tools.
  • A highly qualified candidate would be familiar with some of the following: SharePoint Online, MS Power Automate, Power BI, Reporting Services, and Excel (Pivot Tables).
  • Experience documenting and maintaining configuration and process information.
  • Knowledge of applicable data privacy practices and laws.
  • Strong interpersonal, written, and oral communication skills.
  • Excellent time management and multitasking ability.
  • Highly self-motivated and directed, with strong attention to detail.
  • After hours and weekends, on-call availability.
  • Reliable transportation and freedom to travel upon request.  (Less than 10%.)
