Registered Nurse First Assistant

Job Title: Registered Nurse First Assistant

Profession: Registered Nurse

Hours per Shift: 12

Experience: Minimum of 1 year required

License: New York license required in hand prior to submitting

Certifications: Required certifications for the position

Must-Have: Ability to float to other locations as needed

Description: MUST HAVE LICENSE PRIOR TO SUBMITTING. The schedule will be either 3 shifts of 12 hours, a combination of 2 shifts of 8 hours and 2 shifts of 12 hours, or 5 shifts of 8 hours depending on the needs of the department. Rotating weekends may be required as needed. Holiday coverage is required as needed. On-call/callback duty is required; details will be discussed during the interview. Local candidates are accepted. First-time travelers are accepted. Floating will be required to all other Neuroscience locations and the operating room. Previous charge experience is preferred. Charting experience is required. Experience with community hospital settings is preferred. Travel experience is a plus. Skills required include: Ability to apply tourniquet as ordered. Aseptic technique proficiency. Assist in securing drainage systems to tissue. Clamping and cauterizing vessels or tissues. Counting sponges and related items with circulating nurse. Ability to cut tissue and perform digital manipulation of tissue. Direct digital pressure techniques. Inserting drainage tubes. Adherence to isolation precautions and PPE requirements. Manipulation of surgical instruments. Suctioning, irrigation, and sponging skills. Suturing all wound layers including muscle and fascia. Tying and ligating clamped vessels or tissues. Wound dressing with liquid or spray occlusive methods. Candidates with foreign education must have their credentials verified. Background policy will be reviewed on a case-by-case basis. Return staff policy applies. Modules are required to be completed pre-start and vary by specialty. Modules may be billable. Total module time may reach 10 hours; any time spent in excess of 5 hours is non-billable. Modules are recorded via facility report. All job functions should be performed in accordance with safety standards and best practices.
