Job description

POSITION TITLE: Maintenance Mechanic

DEPARTMENT: Maintenance

POSITION SUMMARY: This position keeps all machines in good running condition and assures smooth and safe operation of the plant. The position is classified into three

levels: Maintenance 1, 2, &3.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

Function #1: Address job assignmentsby priority. Discuss with management which jobs should be performed first.

Function #2: Check chillers, water towers, and air compressors to assurethey are running correctly.

Function #3: Make sure all machines on the floor are running; and fi not, make sure there is enough help to get the job done.

Function #4: Helping out on the floor with running blow molders, down stream conveyors case sealers, boxes, and inserts.

Function #5: Maintain a clean and orderly shop area.

Function #6: Repair and rebuild parts, handle service issues, and maintain the plant and equipment in working order.

Function #7: Perform mechanical, hydraulic, and pneumatics work per ability. Function #7 (Maintenance 2 & 3): Perform changeovers.

Function #8 (Maintenance 3): Fabricate, weld, or perform electrical work.

OTHER RESPONSIBILITIES: Assist others when needed, check fire suppression

system, fans (intake and exhaust), assist with housekeeping and other duties as assigned.

POSITION MAY ALSO PERFORM THE DUTIES OF: May perform the duties of Machine Operator. During startup and/or troubleshooting of equipment, the position may perform the tasks associated with any other position within the plant.

DECISION MAKING: Determine the best course of action (i.e.: repair or replace) in bringing equipment back on line and working safely.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS OF THE POSITION: Must be physically fit to lift the heavy motors and gear boxes, parts, etc., of up to 75 lbs. Standing, walking, bending, reaching overhead, and some climbing.

RESPONSIBILITIES FOR RESULTS: Making sure that breakdowns and repairs are kept to a minimum by conducting preventive maintenance, and a thorough understanding of equipment within the plant.
